"𝑾𝒉𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔?"
𝑴𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒚. This arrangement of “𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐝” by the 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚 is just incredible. It is a reminder of the majesty and sovereignty of our mighty God!
Listening to this song definitely grounds me back to His throne.

Infants are precious, their grip on our fingers is instinctive, and their world is so small. But my prayer for my grandkids is that as they grow, their grip transfers from instinctive to an intentional hold onto the solid rock of God’s truth.
Faith is a gift of our Sovereign God. And yet, in His wisdom and design it has been given to us to have this ringside seat to watch Him at work. We get to speak of Him intentionally to our children and grandchildren, live out our faith before them as a beacon to follow, and all this done in the daily realities of life.
It is a privilege for us as parents and grandparents as well as our responsibility to teach them about our Lord, the truth of who God is, what He has done for us, and the magnificence of His name.
Our brothers and sisters at church are so keenly aware of this biblical responsibility. I love hearing them praying so fervently for their children’s salvation and talk about their family worship and Bible study times. It is such an encouragement to hear their prayers and hear about their intentionality in this!
Legacies aren't built on what we leave 𝙛𝙤𝙧 them. They are built on the truth we leave 𝙞𝙣 them.

𝐌𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭

We are heading back home to South Louisiana from North Mississippi after a weekend visiting my Mom and my family up there. I just took this photo a few minutes ago, as I have been sitting in the back seat editing engagement photos while she is driving.

I drove the first 3 hours and we stopped for dinner with my daughter, and when we left I told Lindsay I needed to finish this session up. So, she quickly agreed to drive a while.

This photo reminds me that marriage is rarely about those big, flashy moments. 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐚𝐲 has taught me that it is the quiet partnership and those seemingly small things spouses should do for each other. The Bible says in Genesis 2:18 that God made a "help meet" for man. Lindsay is the best example of that.

She's a teammate, a companion, best friend, and someone who makes me better just by her being present in the moment. She isn't just driving a car, she's being a helpmate at this moment, taking care of driving so I can do what needs to be done.

Honestly, I need to be better at so many things like this to help meet her needs. She just excels at this kind of thing... and it's not a small role. It's huge.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗔 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Years ago, while studying at 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆, I took a 𝗕𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 taught by the legendary 𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗰𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗵. He was a master storyteller as a professor, which we found out quickly. On the very first day, he opened the semester with a story I’ll never forget.
He recounted sitting across a table from a Catholic Cardinal who looked at him and asked, "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘩?"
Dr. McBeth just smiled at us Seminarians in the class and said, "𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧."
What followed over the semester was a masterclass filled with riveting historical stories of patriotic men and women who desired the freedom to worship God the way they believed that they were willing to give up everything. They traveled across the ocean to this continent of wilderness, endured ongoing taxation and relentless persecution by the British crown to ultimately establish this new nation where religious freedom is guaranteed.

We learned about men like 𝗥𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝘀, who refused to back down and compromise his convictions and helped establish a sanctuary for true religious liberty.
We learned about men who thundered in sermons from colonial pulpits, willing to face jail time and other sanctions rather than to have their faith silenced by the government. They were driven by an unyielding desire to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ without interference.
As we celebrate the fourth of July today, may we be reminded that 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗠𝗔𝗝𝗢𝗥 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀! We owe an incredible debt to those early believers who stood firm in their convictions that we can freely open our Bibles, gather as a church, and proclaim the risen Christ boldly throughout our nation and beyond!
𝗗𝗿. 𝗛. 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗰𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗵. passed on to glory back in 2013. But to this day, I am grateful for his knowledge and his ability to teach, as it really helped me understand more about our nation’s beginnings and the role of religious liberty in the process!
𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝟮𝟱𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮! May we always embrace religious freedom and boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

Well, since everyone is making memes out of this, I figured I would and fix that flag message for us here. 🚩
We have all seen the theological discussions on the internet turn into some kind of "holy war," or cage match. I get that sound doctrine matters deeply, and I think we should have more deep theological discussions in our journey to "get it right, get it biblical." We need to be diving deep into the Word!
However, the moment we start treating our brothers and sisters, our fellow believers, like enemies to be destroyed with our aggressive words, we have lost our way.
You can hold to your uncompromising line of theology without name-calling and demeaning language that dishonors the God we follow.
Ephesians 4:15 reminds us, “𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁.”

We have had some deep and spirited theological discussions on the 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘀 page this week about worship music lyrics. I love the fact that so many people are involved with corporate music in worship!
𝗦𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆. 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀! .

Rᴇsᴛɪɴɢ ɪɴ Hɪᴍ, ᴀɴᴅ Tᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ Pɪᴄs!
Lindsay and I work hard, at least we try to, because God’s Word teaches us to do so.

Therefore, we all need those times of rest and relaxation, to spend quality time together with each other and come back reset to work and be productive again.
A couple of weeks ago, Lindsay, her mom, and I crawled out of the South Louisiana swampland and traveled up to Branson, Missouri, for a much-needed vacation.
As I posted a few days ago, my Canon R6 went down (𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸!). That meant that for our day at Silver Dollar City, I was with my iPhone 17 Pro Max only, no R6.
Now, if you know me, you know 𝙄 𝙜𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙖 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨! So this forced me to work hard with the iPhone to hopefully get some good shots. I guess sometimes a limitation is exactly what you need to push you!
I do use the “𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮” app that gives me the ability to manually set the camera on the iPhone, and capture RAW images for better editing. 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥𝙨 𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙮!

I was doing a little editing tonight of some of our vacation photos from Missouri. When I got to this image, it really hit me right in the heart, in a very, very meaningful way. As a photographer, when you can tell a story in your images, or invoke emotion, that is a powerful thing.

So, in the image you see here, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔. Four! Chris (great-grandmother), Lindsay (grandmother), Allie (the little mama), and Waylon. This is just a phone snapshot, but it captures such a special moment in a restaurant.
For great-grandparents and kids to know each other and have the incredible blessing of TIME together to laugh and love... it is just precious. I thank God for my grandparents, for the moments I did get with them, and for the gift of these moments right now.

🤔Tʜɪɴᴋɪɴɢ Bɪʙʟɪᴄᴀʟʟʏ⛪
We’ve all heard this popular worship lyric:
"𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏'𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒖𝒔, 𝒔𝒐 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒔, 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏."
It sounds good, makes us sound so important, but is is theologically flawed. 𝐼𝑡 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑠 𝑀𝐴𝑁 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑙.
This lyric line implies that God was lonely and heaven was incomplete without us. But, God has existed for all of eternity, long before man was His creation. He is not lacking in anything. 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝟏𝟕:𝟐𝟓 reminds us that God is not “𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈…”
Jesus didn’t come to die because God just couldn’t bear eternity without mankind. Nope. He died to save sinners totally for the glory of His own name. Ephesians 1:5-6 says “𝑯𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒖𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒊𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝑱𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕, 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒖𝒓𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍, 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒆, 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒖𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒅.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝘀 👉𝗠𝗨𝗖𝗛👈 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗰. God didn’t need us at all, we deserved His wrath, YET, He poured out His grace on us anyway.
Let’s make sure the songs we sing magnify His infinite glory, not some inflated worth that some songwriter dreamed up.

𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 & 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐞!
Last week, Lindsay and I had a great time taking her mom, Chris, on vacation with us to Branson. We took her to one of our absolute must-see attractions: the 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 & 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐞. She had not been there yet.
Lindsay and I saw their production of David last year, and we were more than ready to experience it again. David is one of my favorite Bible characters since I was a kid (probably because we have the same name). 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒕, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝒖𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒅𝒆𝒆𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆.
He is known as a "𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑮𝒐𝒅'𝒔 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕," because while we see his massive failures as an adult man, he shows deep, genuine repentance. God forgives him! That is a powerful reminder that while God hates sin, He is rich in grace and mercy. When we confess our sin and repent, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:9) It’s a story that leaves me shook and so grateful for God's forgiveness, and Sight & Sound emphasizes that perfectly in their presentation.
I also want to give a shoutout to a group that probably doesn't get enough recognition: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦. These men are incredibly good at what they do. When you attend a show there, you know that you are very well secured and protected.
