Something clicked while editing photographs and updating my website portfolio.

For years, I’ve found myself trying to conform to what’s expected of a photographer in the wedding industry. And lately, I’m tired of it.

The endless ads promising better workflows, more bookings, more followers, or teaching us how to get published. It’s all become such a time thief.

I remember when I could scroll through Instagram and simply feel inspired by beautiful photographs. No endless tagging, no mention of where something was published, no need to explain why an image mattered.

Somewhere along the way, I think a little of the art got lost in all of this.

What if we, as photographers, stopped pushing so hard for likes, comments, and recognition? What if the only validation we needed came from the people we photograph? The couple who treasures an unexpected moment. The mother who swoons over a photograph of her baby. The families who return year after year because we see something in them worth remembering.

After more than 26 years photographing people’s stories, I’ve watched trends come and go, and the industry change in ways I never imagined.

And I’m beginning to wonder if maybe it’s time to return to what drew me to photography in the first place.

I’d genuinely love to hear from other photographers. What matters most to you? Who are you trying to please?

For me, photographing a wedding is about capturing every feeling, from the quiet, intimate moments earlier in the day to the joyful chaos of the dance floor.

Because every part of your wedding day is part of your story, and I want you to remember how it all felt.
