Doom Bloom was captured just outside Big Bend National Park’s Chisos Basin, June 2025. This is the stage of the Century Plant’s life where its showy blooms appear before the plant’s ultimate demise. It’s stunning to witness this in person as the height of these bloom are 20-30ft.
Doom Bloom is part of a nested collection within my Far West Texas series. And she’s going straight into a giant frame. The third image is coming soon!
If you enjoy art from the Big Bend Area, sign the petition in my bio to help prevent the planned building of a border wall through it. The adminstration has altered the plans to build outside of the parks. It’s unclear if that plan will change again. Nothing is certain, stay vigilant.

Cousins Not Sisters is a new print from Big Bend National Park out in Far West Texas. It’s part of a nested collection celebrating our rarely-blooming Century Plants in their final life cycle. These two are blooming from separate plants, growing nearly on top of each other. The right plant is slightly older, showing off a reddish mast and bare from her bloom’s pups that have all fallen to the ground in hopes of taking root.
These blooms are somewhere around 20ish feet and once finished, the plant will die. The last time I saw this many blooming (or any blooming) in this area was in 2017. But someone who lives out there would know better.

Like most everyone I know, I have felt helpless with the news of the horrifying events that have unfolded around these floods. I’m sharing timely donation opportunities in my stories. These floods have caused devastation for hundreds of miles across central Texas. And as if in a nightmare, we have heard unimaginable horror stories coming out the heart of Texas. I found myself saying things like “Texas girls are strong,” while desperately imagining dozens of rescues of the girls from Camp Mystic & beyond. It felt like some kind of meek bargaining with God. My heart is with the families and communities that have lost so much.

I’d tell Texans to get on their feet, but I know they already are. Pls drop ways to help in the comments too. I’ll be sharing in the stories.

I’ve struggled with making a meaningful post about the fires in LA. How do you put into words something you can’t understand? Or trying to comfort someone in a situation you couldn’t possibly relate to. So don’t. Don’t try and relate. Just keep checking-in with your friends/family/colleagues. Help from a far in any way you can.
If anyone knows of specific local organizations to which we can donate, please drop in the comments so we can help continue the outreach.
