I have been passionate about taking pictures for as long as I can remember. There is a certain kind of rush that comes over me when I see a powerful image and there is nothing else like it! I love to photograph EVERYTHING! Whether it be a subject I am working for, a strange object on the ground, a beautiful flower; if it moves me, I want to capture it- ugly or beautiful. I feel that photography ha
s a unique capability of capturing time and it is my way of truly enjoying every detail of life. I started studying photography in high school. It was at a time when the digital revolution was beginning and film & darkrooms were becoming neglected. Having started on film at a younger age, I was eager to take advantage of the empty darkroom. I spent class hours, lunch hours & after school hours rolling my own film, developing film and printing & developing photos, learning how to tweak images manually, without any software! By the time I graduated, I had used up every last scrap of film and paper left in that lonely darkroom- even the expired paper dating back 20+ years- and to this day, I love to look back at those prints, taking a sense of pride in the fact that I completed every step to create them. Now, of course, digital photography is a huge convenience. I take hundreds of photos at a time and have the instant gratification of knowing I got the shot I wanted. I have learned to love digital just as much as film. I have been shooting digitally for over 10 years. I currently use a full frame Nikon D700 and a Samsung GX-10. I often find myself overriding my "automatic" camera with my knowledge of shooting manually. My specialty is weddings. I LOVE to shoot weddings! For a photographer, weddings are filled with challenges & versatility. I love the fast pace and challenge of going from portrait, to candid, to structural, to action, and to still object photography, all in one day. I also love working with people, which is a necessary quality, in my mind, for a wedding or portrait photographer. I also shoot portraiture. I enjoy documentary style portraiture, but can also do traditional. I find great pleasure in photographing and getting to know families in my community. I especially enjoy outdoor portraiture because it is much more relaxing for the subject(s). You will discover that I would rather you find a position that feels natural to you, than pose you in a stiff, forced position. I find if you aren't relaxed, you probably won't like the photo! I currently do studio work out of my home and have portability (with some restrictions) when necessary. I am available for on-location indoor/outdoor portrait sessions as well, if you would like them done at your home. When I am not doing contracted work, I love going into nature and seeing what kind of interesting subjects I can find. Take a tour around my page & see things from my perspective. :)
