50 years since we first set foot on our celestial sibling. Incredible. I really wish I’d been alive for that one. Maybe I’ll see a human walk on Mars in my lifetime, but I suspect it’s never as special as the first time. Ah well, I’ve seen some pretty cool things too. McWay Falls lit up by the moon late at night without another soul around, for instance, was quite nice. Anyway, I hope today’s anniversary reminds us of how unified we can be, both as a nation and a species. ✌🏻🌖

It’s hard to truly appreciate freedom like this when children and refugees are being kept in deplorable conditions at our border. It’s a stain on our nation, and we need to do much better. Call congress, find a protest, speak up with whatever influence you have. This is not okay.

Oh. And stop playing golf courses owned by the man responsible. Please. @ Big Sur, California

Every time I drive this stunning road along the coast of I’m just so grateful we decided to build it. And even in the busy season you can still find your own slice of isolation, perch yourself on a cliff at sunset, and (if you’re lucky) discover you have just enough LTE to FaceTime with someone special. 😚📱

We had to wake up at 4am to fly to . The next morning we woke up even earlier to fly in one of these. Gently gliding across such breathtaking terrain was an unforgettable experience. Almost as good as the mango punch mimosas that followed.

There are so many hills and plateaus within this park that could be turned into gated communities full of McMansions offering daily stunning sunset views, tarnished only by the unnatural intrusion of a few other McMansions on the opposite hill. It could be developed into a place to be enjoyed only by those who could afford the price of admission.

Heck, it could be a really nice golf course. But it shouldn't be.

Instead, it's just a park. An expansive, unspoiled piece of beautiful land, open to all who wish to explore it. Long may it stay that way.

Enjoy these places, and fight to keep them. We're giving up far too much right now in the name of, best I can tell, absolutely nothing.
