We wake up already positioned on the Katmai Coast, with no daily flight in and out. Our privately chartered 98-foot yacht keeps us mobile, able to move with the wildlife, weather and light, go ashore when conditions are right, then come back aboard for meals, downloading cards, charging batteries and stories from the day.
The group is a big part of what makes this trip so much fun. Just 8 photographers who share a love of wildlife, photography and adventure. We work hard in the field, help each other, laugh a lot and have a blast together. How often do you get to spend six nights on a private yacht in Alaska with a small group of photographers doing exactly what you love?
Brown bears are the heart of the trip. We work the Katmai Coast around Hallo Bay, Geographic Harbor and surrounding areas, with five full days and two half days in the field. Sea otters, eagles, puffins, seals and whales can all become part of the experience too.
Before Katmai, we spend two days around Kodiak with a full-day marine wildlife charter and a half-day island excursion. Then a Beaver floatplane takes us to the yacht on the Katmai Coast.
This is a hands-on photography workshop. Bayliss and I are both in the field, helping with settings, autofocus, exposure, composition and reading behavior as it unfolds.
