There is something about the eyes. They tell the truth long before the mouth ever does. Joy. Pain. Hope. Fear. Love. Exhaustion. Every chapter leaves fingerprints there. Maybe that is why photographers chase them so hard. Not because they are beautiful but because they are honest. The eyes are the closest thing we have to windows into the soul.

Fellas like me do not dream much anymore.
Not the big kind anyway.
Not castles.
Not fame.
Not another mountain left to climb.

At some point a man gets tired clear down into the wiring.
The kind of tired sleep does not fix.
The kind that settles behind the eyes
and rides shotgun with you everywhere you go.

Retirement sits off in the distance now
like a porch light glowing at the end of a gravel road.
Close enough to see.
Close enough to believe in.
Just a little farther to walk.

And Lord, a nap sounds holy these days.

Not death.
Not surrender.
Just rest.

A long chair beneath a slow ceiling fan.
Rain tapping a tin roof somewhere nearby.
Nobody needing anything from me for a little while.

I can feel change coming.
Big change.
The kind you do not announce loudly.
The kind that slips into your life quiet as dusk crossing a pasture.

Funny thing is,
the older I get,
the less I want an audience for any of it.

I have lived enough years in public.
Smiled when I was bleeding.
Performed when I was exhausted.
Answered questions I did not owe answers to.

Now I understand something about disappearing.

Christ said He would come like a thief in the night.
No trumpet for the distracted.
No warning for the busy.

And maybe that is how I will leave this version of myself behind too.

One evening folks will look up
and realize I quietly stepped away from the noise.
No grand speech.
No fireworks.
Just gone from the spotlight
like an old porch song fading into the dark.

But before I go,
I need to say this plain:

Thank you to the ones who loved me honestly.
The ones who checked on me when I got quiet.
The ones who carried pieces of me
when my hands were too full to carry myself.

You mattered more than you know.

And when the time comes,
I believe I will finally exhale.
Like a worn-out traveler
setting his bags down beside the door at long last.

The weekend is here. Three days to remember the men and women who gave everything so we could live free beneath this flag. Honor their sacrifice. Speak their names. Teach your children what courage looks like. And while you remember those who died for our freedom, remember the One who died so we could live forever. Jesus Christ gave us the greatest gift of all. So this weekend, be kind. Go explore. Laugh loudly. Hug your family. Love people the same way you have been loved. Life is fragile and beautiful all at once. Don’t waste it sitting still.

Freedom was paid for in blood. Grace was too.

Whether you’re the one behind the camera or the parent scheduling professional portraits, documenting your child’s journey matters more than you realize. The years move fast. One minute they’re learning to tie their shoes and the next they’re walking across a graduation stage. Make certain you have something beautiful to look back on years from now. Photographs are more than pictures. They are time capsules filled with laughter, growth, milestones, and memories that can never be recreated. Don’t let those moments slip by undocumented.

Happy Birthday, Cambree!!!
To one of my favorite models of the 2026 season, thank you for bringing so much energy, personality, and beauty to every session. You make my job easy behind the camera. I can’t wait to work with you again and create even more incredible images together. Hope your day is as amazing as you are! .4 .ironcitysteen

Baseball is timeless. From 1839 to 2026, this game has continued to evolve while still holding onto the heartbeat that made people fall in love with it in the first place. The crack of the bat. The dirt on the uniform. The tension of a full count with the game on the line. Generations come and go, stadiums change, technology advances, but baseball remains woven into the fabric of America like red stitching on white leather. It is a phenomenal sport to watch and an even more incredible game to play. I’m thankful for every opportunity I had with baseball.
