What happens after the rescue?
The goal isn't just to change someone's circumstances. It's to help them discover their value, their potential, and the purpose God has placed on their life.
Dr. Steven Owuor shares how that transformation is happening in the lives of children at Mescos in Western Kenya.

What happens after you rescue a child?

That question is at the heart of our newest episode of the 5Nine Creative Podcast, recorded on location in Western Kenya with Dr. Steven Owuor.

What began at Mescals Children’s Center of Hope as a vision to rescue vulnerable children has grown into so much more—a children’s home, a Christian school, community outreach, and now the construction of a new senior high school. But as Steven shares in this conversation, the goal has never been simply to meet a need.

It’s about helping children discover their God-given value and purpose and giving them the opportunity to become leaders, professionals, and ambassadors for Christ.

We talk about why lasting ministry requires deep roots, how the Gospel brings transformation beyond someone’s immediate circumstances, and why helping a community means empowering people to become givers—not simply receivers.

Steven also shares the incredible story of Repha, who came to Mescals at just five years old after losing her mother and experiencing tremendous trauma. Today, she’s a bright, thriving student who recently placed first in a regional science competition and advanced to the national level.

Her story is just one example of what can happen when rescue becomes opportunity, purpose, and hope.

And maybe one of our favorite ideas from this conversation is this: Mescals isn’t simply a story of need. It’s a story of success. It’s a story of what God can do when someone is faithful enough to plant a seed, build deep roots, and trust Him with what comes next.

More gear gives you more options—but sometimes too many options make you miss the moment.

When you’re constantly deciding which camera, lens, gimbal, drone, or gadget to use, it’s easy to become more focused on the tools than the story happening in front of you.

Sometimes streamlining your gear gives you the freedom to stop thinking about gear and start creating.

t’s easy to look at successful creators and think, “I need to shoot like them.”

Learn from other creatives. Be inspired by them. But don’t lose your own voice trying to become someone else.

Creativity isn’t about perfectly recreating what someone else has already done. Develop your perspective, trust your instincts, and use the gifts God gave you.

The best camera won’t make you a better storyteller.

Great gear has its place, but knowing why you’re capturing something matters far more than having the latest camera, lens, or gadget. Your mindset, preparation, and ability to recognize the story in front of you will take you further than another piece of gear.

Use what you have. Know it well. Focus on the story.

Great creative work isn’t just about having the best camera, the latest gear, or the most talent.

In Episode 4 of the 5Nine Podcast, we’re breaking down 5 common mistakes we see creatives make—and several of them we’ve made ourselves.

We talk about why more gear doesn’t always make you a better storyteller, the danger of copying other creators instead of developing your own voice, why bad audio can ruin great video, how learning to truly listen can uncover the best parts of a story, and why some creatives simply quit too soon.

Along the way, we share real stories from years of filming—from missed moments and unusable audio to bad early projects and lessons learned while creating around the world.

Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been creating for years, the goal isn’t perfection. It’s to keep practicing, keep growing, and become someone people can trust with their stories.

We worked with Healthbridge Global to share the story of V.E.T. Net: a Christian veterinarian network in Mongolia. Since there are 40x more livestock than humans in Mongolia, animal health is critically important. Because nearly 40% of the population depends on livestock for their livelihood, animal health is directly linked to human health.
V.E.T. Net set out to share the gospel in a truly unique way: using Christian veterinarians to care for animals, but ultimately caring for humans by sharing the gospel. Veterinarians are highly respected in Mongolia, which makes this a perfect strategy.
Animal health=human health. Check out the full video on our youtube page!

Khanyisa is using the things people already love—music, dancing, and sports—to build relationships and create opportunities for lasting life change.

It’s a powerful reminder that ministry doesn’t always begin behind a pulpit. Sometimes it starts with a song, a game, or simply showing up.

Words can explain the mission—but visuals let people experience it. 🎥

When people can see the faces, hear the voices, and witness the impact for themselves, the mission becomes more than an update. It becomes a story they can connect with.
