Catching the sun’s fleeting rays through soft spring petals. A welcomed grand finale to my Mother’s Day. and I spent these fleeting moments chasing the last sun of the day at McDowell Dam, outside Bismarck, ND.

The first and second 📸 are very close compositions. Not sure which is my favorite. Let me know in the comments if you have a favorite. 🌸

First time I heard trilling in the power lines during a substorm. It didn’t last very long and was kind of like a soft click followed by sequence of low trill tones and then repeated over and over. I wish my phone recording didn’t have so much background noise. I almost didn’t hear it, but I’m so amazed I did. The haze you see in the sky is lingering dust leftover from earlier strong winds. The aurora came out when there was lingering light from the sun left in the sky.

Two year anniversary of this amazing storm!!!

Now known as the Gannon Storm. I knew it was going to be epic so it was the first time I brought a large group of friends out on a chase, including my sons. After they went home I took a chance to see if I could get the northern lights on the North Dakota state capital grounds above the state library and Capitol building. It was near morning, which is one reason why you can see more of the purple/blues in the aurora. Definitely one of my favorite nights chasing and it happened to be Mother’s Day weekend as well.

A prairie crocus catching the suns rays is one of my favorite spring scenes. 📸 As early spring sentinels they signal winter's end and spring's arrival. Though fewer than in years past, their beauty is always welcome sight.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the spring equinox than by chasing the northern lights with friends. Three years and counting.🥰💚🙌 I had the best hanging out with , an aurora die hard like me. The storm may not have been as epic as the last time we got together, but anytime under the lights is a good time. 📸

Caught the tail end of a substorm Sunday morning. Finally got a chance to photograph this scene with some snow on the ground.

Enhance solar winds from the Coronal Hole helped the some border states with clear skies see the aurora on Saturday and Sunday.

Hooray to going out last minute! (Scroll for progression.) GOES was bouncing around and what initially seemed like it would be an average night, ended up with fun aurora formations. Couldn’t get out into my normal dark spots fast enough, so I had to improvise.

My Valentine’s Day was made sweeter with the addition of a late night northern lights chase. The usually warm temps and clear skies were all I could ask for yesterday. North Dakota spoiled me in her own special way.

Foggy Spring Aurora Over New Johns Lake.

The morning of April 19th, 2025 a window of clear skies opened up after 2 a.m. and I drove out to New Johns Lake, ND to see if I could get some reflections. The substorm happened during the drive and I was able to see the lights clearly without a camera. I caught the break up of the substorm over the foggy lake as the moon was starting to rise. I wasn’t even sure if i would be able to get a photograph due to the high level of fog that night.
