Working with Ashley for her personal branding session was pure magic. Every detail felt intentional, soft, and a little bit otherworldly. She has this beautiful way of blending her grounded presence with something more ethereal, and translating that into portraiture was such a joy.

Spring graduation season is almost upon us, and I've been thinking about how lucky I am to photograph so many brilliant IU Bloomington graduates every year, each heading into a different corner of the world with something meaningful to offer.

From artists to scientists to everything in between, I’m endlessly proud of the students I get to photograph and genuinely excited to see where they go next.

Happy Friday, friends! 👋

I wanted to take a moment for a little , especially since I snapped this self-portrait yesterday while tidying up the studio after a fun headshot shoot. 🥰

I'm Katy and I moved to Bloomington in 2006 to pursue a degree in journalism. I graduated from IU in 2010 with my degree in journalism (with a photojournalism focus and a couple of minors in art). I got to spend a summer abroad studying photography in Paris, too.🗼

I started Icarus Photography in 2011, and it has been a wild, wonderful journey since. In 2018, I opened my first commercial studio space right here in downtown Bloomington, where I've had the joy of capturing everything from maternity and newborn portraits to headshots, generational portraits, and much, much more. 📸

Earlier this year, I got to expand from my cozy little Kirkwood portrait studio into a big, beautiful space at 3rd & Rogers and I finally have the wall of windows and huge ceilings I’ve always dreamed of! 😍

I’m looking forward to creating more art, meeting new people, and making more memories in this new space. Hope to see you around! 💕

One of my favorite projects to date! 💛🩷💜💙

Meet The Sera-Tones, an amazing middle school rock band from Bloomington, IN (my kiddo is their guitarist 🎸) Their band came together at a summer camp a few years ago, and they've had an incredible last year developing their sound, playing shows, and even getting the amazing opportunity to record at this past December.

They'll be celebrating the release of their original EP, 𝘏𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘺 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦, this Saturday 3/9 at from 2-4 p.m. with an open-house style party and live tunes. They'd love for you to come say hi and grab a CD! 💿🎧

So excited to finally announce that the studio is moving! Icarus Photography will now be located in Suite 8 at 213 S. Rogers St, just a hop, skip and a jump away from our original Kirkwood location. We're going to have a lot more room to work in, tons of natural light, and massively tall ceilings, and we're super excited to be surrounded by awesome neighbors like Secretly Group, The FAR Center for Contemporary Arts/Pictura, Bloomington Fine Art Supply, Rainbow Bakery, Bloomington Stitchery, and more! 🎉✨😊

Recieved some incredible news this past week, as I learned this piece, a portrait of my daughter inspired by both her namesake and Johannes Vermeer's painting, 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘗𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨, has been selected for the 𝙈𝙮 𝙂𝙞𝙧𝙡 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙋𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙡 exhibition at the home of the original painting, the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague, Netherlands. It will be on display in the Vermeer Room the week of May 1-7, 2023!

I was excited to learn today that two of my images have been selected for live competition and display at the Inspired by NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers) Gallery Event & Print Competition on July 28th at Park Studios in Atlanta, GA. 😊
