The end of a beautiful chapter. Today is as good a day as any to announce the official closing of Christine Rossiter Photography. This will come as no surprise, since I've been closed since the pandemic began back in spring of 2020. Goodness, that seems like a lifetime ago. What also seems like a lifetime ago, is this first picture below of me back in 2015. It was the day my photography business/career was born. I convinced several fellow mama friends to let me practice photographing their families on a 90 degree summer afternoon at the ISU Horticulture Center. I made so many mistakes that day and learned so much of the what NOT to do! But surprisingly, most people loved their photos and more importantly, loved working with me.

Back then I had two babies still at home, working as a SAHM full time. I was desperately craving to find myself again and carve out some "me time" away from the confines of our home. Photography gave me a beautiful outlet to be myself, socialize with amazing friends & clients, pursue my passion, and help provide for my family. It was absolutely perfect for us at the time. I absolutely LOVED it. My business grew and grew and grew! I could barely keep up with demand for my services. You all wonderful people kept me happily busy. 🙂

Fast forward to today, in 2022. My oldest daughter is finishing up her last year of elementary school this spring. She'll transition to Junior High next year (oh dear!). My youngest is self-sufficient and no longer a baby by any sense of the term. They're both in school full time and I can feel the years slipping by. Why do they have to grow up so darn fast?? For so many years, I spent my evenings and weekends booked solid with photoshoots. But now, evenings and weekends are filled with non-stop kid activities and family time. My priority always has been, and always will be my family. And at this stage in our lives, I am only willing to work when the girls are both at school and my husband is at work (and boy, does he work some crazy hours with the ISP). I'm not willing to give up this precious time with my family during these crucial years.

If the pandemic taught us anything, it's that life is precious and can change on a dime in a second. And I can't think of a better way to spend my time than soaking it up with the ones dearest to me. ♥ Due to the lack of available teachers because of covid and the teacher shortage, I've also started substitute teaching at my girls' school to help fill the gaps and step up when needed. I plan on staying with that as long as there is a need. It feels good to help out during this extreme time of need for our schools.

I feel very flattered that my past clients and friends keep asking me when I'll be back. I feel so honored that you're hoping I'll return someday to photograph your families again! You make me feel very loved. ♥ But for now, this is the end of this era. I wish you all sincere happiness, health, and lots of love. I hope I'll get to see you around town or through FB maybe. Keep documenting those important milestones. Keep snapping away at the ordinary moments. Those silly pictures or mundane moments captured are the ones you'll love most in years to come. Big hugs to you all. ♥ Christine

Happy Back-to-School Month, friends! Well, for most of us it is finally happening. Those sweet kiddos of ours, who have been home with us since spring of 2020, are finally going back to all day in-person learning at school. I know I'm certainly excited that my two daughters are back to in-person learning with masks! It's certainly been a crazy year and a half. I keep getting messages about whether or not I'm coming back to work this fall, so I wanted to give you all an update. My husband and I have decided that it's still not time for me to go back to work yet. 2020/2021 has been looooong and stressful, ya'll! I know you feel me. So, instead of hopping right back into work at the first opportunity I get while my kiddos are back in school, I have made the decision to take some time for myself. This fall while my daughters are in school (hopefully it lasts!), I will be using that time to decompress, take time to work on myself, maybe even relax a little, get some chores/projects done, and basically just enjoy having a few hours to myself during the day. I've learned throughout the years that as much as I love doing things for other people and saying yes to just about everything...that saying No to others and saying Yes to myself is just as important. I hope everyone understands my need for an extended hiatus. This fall I'll be focusing on my own wellness, mindfulness, getting back my creativity, taking care of my family as always, and de-stressing. Wishing you all a fabulous Fall & sending big hugs to you all. Stay well, friends! ♥

2021 Update: Happy New Year, friends! 2020 was quite the doozey, huh? Everyone had to rearrange their lives and find a new normal for the time being. Our family was no exception to that. Our two daughters have been learning remotely in our home since the pandemic began. And although the vaccines are starting to arrive, and we are on the road to another new normal, we're not there yet. My girls will continue learning at home through this school year and my husband is still serving and protecting our community during this time. That means, I will also still be focusing my time here at home with my family. I feel fortunate to have the ability to put my photography on the backburner at the moment to focus exclusively on keeping our family healthy, happy and sane during these crazy times. Many of you have reached out asking when I'm coming back to work. My answer is, I don't know yet. I know other photographers have been working during these times. But at this time, I'm still not back to work with my own photography business. I hope you understand that I'm doing what's best for my family at the moment. I hate disappointing you all with my absence and miss seeing your faces smiling at me, but home is where I'm still needed right now. They're my top priority, always. I promise to let you all know when I'm 'back in business'. ♥ Let's make the best of this new year by spreading and finding joy whenever we can. Wishing you all a much happier 2021! ♥

Update: Since our local school districts have released their back to school plans, we now have a better idea of what this fall might bring. Our family has chosen to keep our two young daughters at home for their education needs. So instead of resuming my photography business this fall, I will instead be assuming the role again of Mrs. Rossiter (principal, teacher, and overall chaos wrangler) of our little kiddos. And since my plate will be overflowing with responsibilities and work at home this fall, I will not be planning on any photography work for the rest of 2020.

Good luck to everyone navigating this insane 2020-2021 school year (and life in general!)....we’re all gonna need all the support, encouragement, and love we can get!! ♥️📚💪🏼🧠

Believe me when I tell you that I cannot wait for this pandemic to be over so I can get back to what I love, which is photographing all your families! Until then, stay safe, keep taking those pictures, and documenting this crazy time in our lives. Sending virtual love and hugs to you all! ♥️

Hello everyone. I hope you’re all staying healthy, happy, and sane during these unprecedented and crazy times we’re living in! 2020 has definitely thrown us all several curveballs and I feel like each week brings on new challenges for us all. I’ve discussed and debated opening my photography business back up at length with my husband, and sadly we’ve come to the decision that it’s just not feasible for me to start my photography business back up this summer. We’ve still got a lot of things working against us at this point and more obstacles popping up weekly. 😞

I so wish I had a different update for you, as I would love to take your family photos in normal times! But at this time, I have to keep my own little family my number one priority for my time and energy. I need to make sure we’re all physically healthy, mentally and emotionally healthy, and safe. It’s certainly not an easy task these days! I pray that everyone who reads this is hanging in there too. I’m sending lots of love to you all. 💜💙❤️

I don’t want to let anyone down, but at this point I do have to recommend that you find another photographer for this summer. I know there are several photographers in the area doing photoshoots again. My husband and I will reassess things this fall, but I’m not sure if I’ll be back working outside the home in 2020 with photoshoots. All I know for sure is that everyone needs to do what is best for their family right now. Keep yourselves and your loved ones safe and happy during these unbelievable times we’re living in! And make sure you’re snapping pics along the way to document this history we’re all living through collectively right now.

Sending big virtual hugs your way. 💜💙❤️
Christine

I have had many clients contact me lately about scheduling spring photoshoots and wondering if I am still able to do outdoor photo sessions right now, as long as we stay 6 feet apart. So I wanted to send a quick message to my clients to help answer this common question.

We are definitely living in unprecedented times with the global coronavirus pandemic. As a non-essential small business owner, I'm currently not able to operate my business per Illinois' mandate. My family is also following all the shelter-in-place guidelines to help flatten the curve and keep ourselves and others safe from contracting or spreading COVID-19. Therefore, I am unable to do any photos at this time. All my scheduled spring sessions have had to be postponed until the situation changes. I am also not scheduling any photoshoots for later this spring/summer yet since everything these days is so unclear and fluid. I will let everyone know when I am able to resume my photography business.

In the meantime, I am sending love to everyone during this crazy time! Together, by staying apart, we will save lives. We're all in this together. ♥ Big virtual Hugs to you all!

This little firecracker of mine is going to be 6 in just a couple days! I can hardly believe it. The baby of our family started kindergarten this year and is growing up so darn quickly. Of course I had to take a little time to capture some of Lyla's classic expressions, beauty and s***k. She is our crazy little girl. She's the perfect combination of sweet & sassy. Lyla keeps us on our toes and laughing constantly! She's a dinosaur enthusiast, princess lover, chicken nugget eater, mover & shaker, early reader, music lover, soccer player, sister prankster, and a non-stop ball of energy. Lyla is a girl with a million expressions and hilarious one-liners. She's just simply, an absolute joy of a daughter. And in true Lyla fashion, she was the director of this photoshoot. She was adamant about which outfits to wear, accessories to use, and made it perfectly clear that I was not allowed to do her hair, and would only cooperate with clear bribes of suckers and treats. ;) She humored me and tried on the red beret and jacket that a friend gave us (so cute!).

We love you, sweet Lyla Kate! Happy almost birthday from your biggest fans. ♥ Mommy, Daddy, and Big Sis love you bunches!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours! As the holidays quickly approach, it's a great time to reflect upon the past year and look forward to new opportunities ahead. 2019 was filled with lots of exciting moments at Christine Rossiter Photography and for my own family. I met lots of new families, which is always a treat. Got to see lots of returning clients (man, do these kiddos grow up fast year to year!). Worked around a lot of crazy Illinois weather. (Why do we live in IL again?!) And had the pleasure of telling lots of potty humor jokes to make those kiddos of yours do some real smiles, lol! It is such a joy to photograph you all and share some of these images on social media. This is one of my favorite months of the year for my photography business. I absolutely love getting mailboxes full of holiday cards with your beautiful faces on them, moments we captured together. ♥ I love knowing that we've documented a snippet in time for you to share with loved ones. Memories on cards, up on the walls, in photobooks, and on those profile pictures. ;) What a year it's been! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me with your memories once again. It fills my heart with joy. As I sign off on another year, please know that I'm wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and sending lots of holiday joy your way. My two little girls, Sophie & Lyla, are anxiously awaiting Santa's arrival next week. So, I'm off to make some Christmas magic happen in the Rossiter household! See you all in 2020....hopefully in person and from behind my lens! ♥

What a fabulous way to end my photography season! The Becker family could not have been more fun to photograph. Six beautiful, sweet-as-can-be kiddos, two patient/fun/loving parents, lots of sibling giggles and love....what more could one hope for! I wish I could share this whole darn gallery, because....I mean, look at them. But, here are just a few of my favorites while I go edit the rest of this fabulous family's gallery. ♥
