A little backstory behind my thoughts this month and how it relates to my submission:

I've been struggling a lot with winter depression. It happens every year, my brain feels foggy and my thoughts are scattered. In trying to focus on one thing, one task, one goal, I am assaulted by a million micro-thoughts, worries, anxiety spiking and causing me to lose that focus. Some days it's easier to know what I have to do, while other days, it's impossible. I wanted to consider that for my submission this month.

So this is a photograph I took at 4am, 13 February 2024. It began to snow quite hard in my little town, and excited me couldn't sleep so I went out for a walk.

I think this image perfectly represents my version of "Negative Space", and how it relates to my current mental state. The subject is the car, it's trekking through the snow on its way out of town. It's contrasted by the stoplight post looming overhead, lit green to allow it to continue pushing through the weather. The falling snow itself represents my own racing thoughts, in the way, distracting the viewer from what their eyes are trying to focus on, taking away from the clarity and detail of the image, the same way my own anxiety and depression distract me from my tasks and goals.
