“First Light at Wrightsville Beach” captures the peaceful beauty of sunrise in Wilmington, North Carolina as cool blue and slate clouds lift above Johnnie Mercer Pier and the Atlantic Ocean. The horizon glows with sharp, luminous dawn light, sending vertical bands of color through the sky while soft reflections shimmer gently across the water. It was such a quiet, beautiful moment.

These sweet little waterfalls at Newland, North Carolina are such a sheer delight in the hollows of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Shown here are the two top tiers of the waterfall, just a short climb from the lower falls. The water flow varies with recent rain, and I was fortunate to capture this long‑exposure image after a generous summer shower.

The light came in slowly, warming the pier and drifting across the water in the softest way. Everything felt calm and unhurried — the kind of morning where you can almost hear the stillness around you.

I loved how the warm glow touched the wood and how the reflections settled into the inlet, creating a peaceful rhythm in the water. It felt gentle, simple, and honest, and I wanted to capture it just as it was.

Sharing it tonight because sometimes a quiet moment is exactly what we need — a little calm, a little warmth, and a reminder of how beautiful the start of a day can be.

This Great Blue Heron had strutted all up and down the creek for the better part of two hours...Smiles. I enjoyed watching him, rather intently I might add, and he finally came to a stance in some shallow water not far from where I was standing in the creek. I felt certain he was posing for this portrait. I was amazed at the beauty of this gorgeous creature, often seen here in Northeast Tennessee.
