When the international mail you’ve been waiting for finally arrives!!

SUCH AN ESTEEMED HONOR to be published by the international association of professional birth photographers as one of two birth photographers representing the United States (along with the amazing .photo of Portland) and so honored to be representing my home state of FLORIDA!!! 🍊🐊

What an amazing way to celebrate my 12th year of being south floridas birth photographer! I have officially captured 220 births here in sunny South Florida. None of this would be possible without the trust of my amazing birth clients, their families, South floridas most amazing birth doulas, midwives, labor and delivery nurses, docs, anesthesiologists, and more. Thankful for our community creating space for an emotional artist like me! I’ve been a south Florida girl for 35 years this month and I’m not planning on going anywhere!

And I really gotta shout out to my hubby and kids. Though I was an unprepared mama having them, and didn’t choose the right birth teams for me, leading to my PPD & PTSD, I am hugely thankful to be the woman I am today, I turned my pain into the empowerment I can share with other women in preparing for the births right for them and I would not go back in time and change a single thing. Grateful to be your birth photographer for 12 years now and here’s to another 12! 🥹🧁1️⃣2️⃣🎉

Almost 12 years ago I started photographing births

But sadly, I quickly became disheartened as I experienced a lot of heavy emotions through my clients traumatic births

And there has been someone all these years who has turned around scary/negative/traumatic births over all these years….

MIDWIVES

Where I saw arrogance, hastiness at births… making me want to keep my distance…. midwives brought humility & patience & gentleness

Over these years, midwives have made the difference in every single one of my clients lives.

If you have a uterus, you deserve to experience being cared for by a midwife.

If you plan to give birth in the next 9 months, whether you’re having your baby in the hospital, at home, or oops! in the car 😆you deserve to have a midwife patiently sitting at your bedside, ready to deliver (help you catch) your baby

If you need annual pap smears and GYN care, you deserve slow paced, cozy visits, a continuation of care with midwives.

You know what’s nuts? Is I feel like a lot of us are smiling and giving high energy vibes but keeping up with the socials is quite a struggle. When you wake up with a headache and one of your kiddos didn’t sleep all night, the other is sick, the hubby is away for work, and you’ve got a client in early labor, I imagine the last thing you want to do is come up with insta content lol.

So I’ve been a bit MIA with the posting. Def don’t appreciate how reels = everything and good old fashioned photos are being a bit irrigated out of the social scene. Its okay, I’ll keep doing what I’m doing 😊

If you follow me, you’ll soon learn I do more stories than I do posts. It’s just turned out to be my thing.

So here is a post of a recent VBAC - which is safe + OBGYN supported: a vaginal delivery following a C-section. Once a c-section NOT always a c-section! With one small caveat, this mama had two c-sections before welcoming her babes girl safely via Vbac. You can see her sis, her doula + her older kiddos in this photo as she latches her sweet babes girl for the first time after giving birth. Thank you for having me in your sacred space mama J!

Walking into a birth space of a long time client who has turned into a strong bonded friendship, it’s the unseen woven path of my work that I love so much.

I love being trusted, welcomed, and to walk in and see this smile that my client is so happy I’ve arrived. So grateful to be trusted by mamas and their birth teams in such a vulnerable space. Someone recently said about an image I took in a birth space “good for you being brave and capturing this very private vulnerable moment for this mom in labor” and I thought what an odd thing to say, a way I have never looked at it in any of my births, I think largely because when I arrive to a birth, it never feels that way. Perhaps there are  a few moments I step aside and don’t photograph, based on feeling the vibes in the birthing space, but all the moments I capture, were not moments that were invasive, they were welcomed moments & I am so grateful to have that comfortability and trust with my clients and their teams to be intricately woven member in this space. All my birth photos are technically behind the scenes because I don’t want anything posed, I just capture the birth unraveling naturally as it does. But when we get so close and feel like old soul sisters and friends, it just melts my heart to go through these and see my client smiling at me while I am behind the camera.

Feeling blessed with this sweet soul’s words Thank you Kari for trusting me in the birth space with the women you work so tirelessly to support and advocate for. This Sunday is International Women’s Day, and you gotta admit it is incredible to be a woman. We can soar above men with the intensity we expertly carry on our wings through childbirth. We, like divine goddesses, navigate a rollercoaster of hormones and emotions week to week. We raise brave young women and men of tomorrow. And we all do it while curling our hair, being a boss babe at work, and make life crucial decisions. Let us always embrace womanhood and community through sisterhood. 🤍
