Before we talk about family photos, we need to talk about the expectations around them.

Most parents come to a session with rules:
Kids should be calm,
Everyone should cooperate,
And if we can just get one “good” photo, it will be worth it.

That pressure changes everything.
It puts parents into managing mode.
It makes kids feel watched instead of safe.
And it turns something meaningful into something to get through.

If family photos have ever felt more stressful than beneficial, there’s nothing wrong with your family. You just need expectation that actually honor the season you’re in.
