There’s a moment in Stanley right before the sun clears the horizon when the whole Sawtooth Range goes quiet and gold. You hear nothing just quiet. Your breath fogs. And for about four minutes the peaks light up like they’re lit from inside.

I’ve stood in that spot more times than I can count, and it still gets me every time.

This is the print I keep coming back to. Not because it’s dramatic, but because it feels like the West I love. The kind of view you want on your wall so a little piece of that stillness lives in your home all year long.

This Saturday I get to do one of my favorite things in the world. I’m taking a small group out under the dark sky to chase the Milky Way, and I cannot wait.

There’s something that happens when the light drops and the stars come up over those mountains. People go quiet. Cameras come out. And then somebody catches their very first shot of the galaxy arching over the peaks, and you hear this little gasp in the dark. That moment gets me every single time.

You drove an hour out of town. Googled “Milky Way camera settings” 14 times. Pointed your camera up… and got a blurry dark mess.

Same. That used to be me.

I started chasing the Milky Way in the Owyhees back in 2018 — cold nights, dead headlamp batteries, no clue what I was doing.
This summer I’m going back to where it all started, and I’m bringing 8 of you with me.
Most “how to shoot the Milky Way” tutorials dump a list of settings on you and call it a day.
That’s not what we’re doing.

I’m walking you through how I actually plan a shoot — every step I take before I even leave the house, and every move I make once we’re under the stars. You learn it by doing it, not by watching another YouTube video.

You leave with images you took, a digital planning guide to do this on your own, and that “wait, that’s it??” moment when it finally clicks.
