one of the most things I hear from couples on nearly EVERY inquiry calls is, "Maggie, we LOVE your photos, but we're so awkward in front of a camera. Your work is cut out for you with us."

& honestly? I understand.

most people aren't professional models. most people haven't spent hours learning how to pose, find their angles, or look effortlessly in love on command.

and YOU shouldn't have to.

my job isn't to turn you into people who are just suddenly good at being photographed. it's to help you feel comfortable enough to be yourselves, give you direction when you need it, and recognize when a moment is better left alone.

because I don't want you spending your wedding day worrying about what to do with your hands. and I definitely don't want you spending your wedding day wondering how to look in front of my camera.

I want you laughing with your friends. hugging your family. kissing your partner because you actually want to. sprinting to the dance floor before your favorite song ends.

AND I want you to have photos that bring you RIGHT back to those memories.

you don't have to be camera people.

and you don't even have to like having your photo taken.

nope. you just have to show up as yourselves.

candid vs posed wedding photos. let's talk about it. 👀

as I've been talking to couples getting married in 2027, I'm hearing a lot of misconception and confusion that documentary wedding photography means your photographer *NEVER* gives direction, never creates a planned editorial portrait, and simply follows you around with a camera.

but that is definitely not how I work or how I approach wedding photography 💁‍♀️

sometimes I'm anticipating a moment before it happens. sometimes I'm stepping in to create a beautiful portrait with intentional composition, flattering light, and a little direction about what to do with your hands.

I'll always direct family in family portraits to stand in the most flattering way, put their hands in their pockets, remove sunglasses, and fix their posture.

and sometimes I snap a photo of a hilarious moment when someone doesn't know the camera is next to them.

both approaches have a place in your wedding gallery.

true candid & documentary photography is about recognizing and preserving your memories as they unfold.

intentional planned or posed portraits are about creating something beautiful and enjoyable together. most people don't know how to magically pose for a photo or how to behave in front of the camera. that's why I'm here to hype you up, make you feel safe, guide you into natural feeling poses that bring out real emotion and your personality.

and the there is neither is inherently better than the other.

and you don't have to choose between a gallery that feels authentic and one that feels elevated.

my approach combines both candid photos and planned posed portraits because I want you to have photographs that bring you back to how your wedding felt, alongside portraits you'll be excited to frame in your home.

all without spending your entire wedding day posing for a camera.

I believe your wedding is a real experience, not a production. and your photos should reflect that. 🤍

Your wedding day IS NOT a content shoot. & taking your wedding photos shouldn't just be about creating or capturing content.

I firmly believe a full & complete wedding gallery should be full of truly candid memories and posed portraits that feel authentic to who you are.

As a wedding photographer, I never want to take away from your true lived experience or the opportunity to create memories. It's your day. You deserve to fully enjoy it.

My goal is to create intentional time for couples portraits that feel easy, stress free, & relaxed. Your photos shouldn't take up your entire day and your wedding shouldn't be just about taking photos ❤️🫡

but those photos don't happen just because a photographer shows up with a camera and "hopes for the best".

as your wedding photographer, I make a promise to my couples that I am here for YOU.

and i'm constantly paying attention to what's happening around you. I'm anticipating moments, noticing connections, and observing. and I also know exactly when to step in and when to let things unfold.

my approach to wedding photography is a balance of intentional direction and being present enough to recognize the moments you could never have planned for.

and let's be real, you DESERVE photos of the beautiful details you carefully chose AND the special people in your life who made your wedding feel like yours.

these AMAZING grooms dreamed a giant party with a side of wedding. so that's exactly what kind of wedding they threw. 💜

two perfect stylish purple suits. custom cocktails. INCREDIBLE food & a fine dining experience none of their guests will forget. a real red carpet rolled out for a grand entrance. one packed restaurant The Lively in downtown Boise. & absolutely no interest in turning their wedding into a cliche or production.

here's what I want more couples to know: you don't have to choose between gorgeous wedding photos you'll cherish forever AND actually enjoying your wedding.

you can prioritize the incredible meal, spend an extra hour at cocktail hour, make your favorite people the center of the experience, and still walk away with photos that feel thoughtful, artful, and completely you.

and that's where my personal approach as a photographer comes in.

I'm not going to disappear into a corner & hope for the best, but I'm also not going to turn your wedding into an all day long exhausting photoshoot.

I'll provide gentle direction when you need it, take things off your plate when I can, and make room for the moments you couldn't have planned even if you tried.

because the goal isn't to manufacture a wedding that looks incredible in photos.

the goal is to create a wedding that feels incredible to be at, then make photos that bring you right back to the memories.
