Carrie Grant Photography Carrie Grant Photography is a boutique portrait studio in Boise's Harris Ranch Mill District For me, photography isn’t about aperture or shutter speed.

Clearly the technical aspects are important, but that’s not what excites me. What inspires me is capturing real moments in time – a giggling daughter with her father, a mother watching over her new child, a rider connecting with her horse. Posed images certainly have their place, but I get such a thrill out of capturing those unplanned, organic moments between beings. That brief period in time whe

n my camera perfectly captures an instant of raw, honest emotion. These aren’t always happy moments, but they are moments that, once preserved in a photograph, immediately transport the viewer back to that time. Even in my bo***ir work, it is about that split second when a woman realises that she is sensual, powerful, alive… and that is translated into the images created through the camera lens. Every session is different and I never fully know what to expect. I love that. And I am so grateful that this is how I get to spend my days. The many hats I wear in life contribute to my photography. I am a woman, a mother, a wife, an equestrian. I’ve been passionate about animals for as long as I can remember. I recall being asked in school, “What is your dream when you grow up?” My answer… “I want to have a menagerie.” I am well on my way with a magnificent Ragdoll cat, one doting Ridgeback, a Golden pup, one obnoxious African Grey parrot and my partner in the arena, my Thoroughbred, Mannie. My kids could sometimes be classified as part of the menagerie. Being a mother of two small children keeps me running, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My life is incredibly full… full of fur, full of laughs, full of love. I am so grateful to be living my life in the way I am… It makes me a better photographer and a better human being.

It's hard to pick favorites...

…but this one keeps making me smile.

Sometimes it's the light.

Sometimes it's the expression.

Sometimes everything just comes together for a fraction of a second.

Those are the images I chase every time I pick up my camera.

Thanks for following along this month. ❤️

Same horse. Same pose. Completely different finished piece.

Editing isn't about making a horse look different.

It's about removing distractions, shaping light, and finishing the portrait the way I envisioned it when I pressed the shutter.

PSA for National Dog Day today: bring the dog! 🐶

Seriously.

If your dog is part of your family, they are absolutely welcome at your session.

Will they always sit exactly where I want them to? No.

Will they look at the camera when everyone else looks perfect? Also no.

Will someone inevitably be holding a treat directly over my head while I make ridiculous noises?

Almost certainly.

But they're part of your life right now—and that's reason enough to include them.

Happy National Dog Day to all the very good boys and girls. ❤️

Some days my work looks like chasing perfect light, guiding clients, and creating beautiful equestrian portraits I’m really proud of.

Other days it looks like trying to take photos while a horse is mid-expression, ears everywhere except forward, and absolutely convinced the camera is either a snack or a personal insult.

And honestly… most days are a mix of both.

It’s chaotic, funny, a little unpredictable — and I wouldn’t trade barn life for anything.

Senior session tip: Don’t feel like you need to buy an entire new wardrobe. 👗👚

The best outfits are usually the ones you already love wearing.

Choose pieces that fit well, feel comfortable, and actually look like you. Then add one outfit that’s a little dressier or slightly outside your everyday style.

We’ll talk through what outfits make the most sense for your session—based on location, time of year, and your personal style—during your design consultation before the session. No last-minute stressing allowed!

Here's a question...

How many photos do you have on your phone that you absolutely love?

Now...

How many of them have you looked at in the last six months?

I'm not anti-digital (you actually receive digital copies of every image you purchase), but my goal has always been bigger than delivering files.

I want your favorite photographs to become part of your home.

Albums get opened.
Wall art gets seen every single day.

That's where photographs really come to life.

There are portraits that show what your horse looks like...

…and then there are portraits that remind you what this season of life felt like.

The quiet moments.
The goofy moments.
The ones where your horse decides the posing guide is merely a suggestion.

Those are usually my favorites.

This week was the start of school for most Treasure Valley schools.

And for the Class of 2027, it was also the LAST first day.

And I’m guessing that hits a little differently for the moms than it does for the kids. ❤️

There are going to be a lot of “lasts” this year—last homecoming, last football game, last school dance, last day walking out of the doors.

But there are also so many good things ahead.

Senior year goes ridiculously fast. Take the pictures. Show up for the things. Let them roll their eyes when you get sentimental. And maybe take an extra second to look at that kid who somehow became a senior when you weren’t paying attention.

Happy first day, Boise. And to the senior moms… you’ve got this. 😊

I don’t often photograph senior boys, but when I do, we do it RIGHT! Sun Valley never disappoints. 🌄🌞 The smoke cleared just enough for us to capture some fun shots.

I’m really looking forward to JJ’s second session in Fort Worth this fall including photographing him in his music studio! There are amazing things coming from this kiddo.

I can't wait to share more from this one!

Editing is where the image really becomes art.

No AI filters.
No one-click presets.

Just a lot of careful, intentional work—time spent refining color, light, texture, and tone. Every image gets individual attention, down to the smallest details, and yes… probably way too much zooming in to make sure everything is just right.

Each image takes a minimum of 20-30 minutes... some take much longer. Here’s a sped-up look at how I transform the raw image into art for your home.

The final image is worth every minute.
