I was going through my hard drives last night to delete images I didn’t like when I found this one. I had edited other photos in this series, but I think this was the sharpest of this leopard in this particular pose. I’m glad I check my photos before clearing them off my hard drives! This young adult female was my first good leopard sighting. We caught her in February 2025 as she woke up from a nap in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. She was in a playful mood and treated her tail like a cat toy before rolling upside down in her perch and watching us for a while.

This relaxed Alaskan Brown Bear stopped fishing for a moment to have a drink as my group crouched in the water against the riverbank, and delivered a subtle side-eye just to remind us she knew we were there and she didn’t mind.

“Hey. How ya doing over there? I’m just gonna nap here for a bit. Cool?” —-This was the conversation I imagined as this big bear finished eating salmon and decided to take a nap about 35 yards away from us on the riverbank while we watched him and ate our lunches among the salmon carcasses.
