The wedding industry has changed sooooo much in the past few years (mostly for the better).⁣
⁣
While COVID really sucked the fun out of all of us for awhile there, it wasn’t all bad.⁣
⁣
It bred some fearless, badass brides who aren’t afraid of big, bold color.⁣
⁣
Brides who are ready to ditch the safety of monochrome whites & neutrals.⁣

I remember years ago I thought hearing the word “NO” was a negative thing.

You see… in my mind it was definite.

Unchangeable, unattainable, out of reach.

The word “NO” meant that I would never have or be all of the things that I wanted.

But, after having lived some life and knowing what I do now… here’s what being told “NO” actually means:

“No” means not yet.
“No” means adjust.
“No” means time.
“No” means patience.
“No” means being flexible.
“No” means getting creative.
“No” means work your mf ass off.
“No” means perseverance.

“No” means prove your haters wrong.

There have been sooooo many no’s in my life… and, there will surely be more.

But, remember…

“NO” is not an answer.

I vividly remember taking this photo… feeling myself tear up a bit watching these two, realizing that this was my last wedding of the year. 🥹🥹🥹⁣⁣

The food was gone.⁣⁣
The drinks were empty.⁣⁣
The music turned down low.⁣⁣

AN ODE TO MY DAY 1 CLIENTS. 🥹🥹🥹⁣

You know who you are…⁣
⁣
I think it’s easy to look at my work now (4 years in) and like what you see…⁣
⁣
But, how about those of you that were here in the beginning…⁣
⁣
When I had 100 followers.⁣
⁣
When I had never shot a wedding.⁣
⁣
When my editing was all over the place.⁣
⁣
When I think back to those early days, I am most thankful for YOU.⁣
⁣
I wouldn’t be here if it’s wasn’t for YOU.⁣
⁣
YOU saw the potential when I felt mediocre at best.⁣
⁣
YOU believed in me before I did.⁣
⁣
I love ALL of my clients yes but, there’s something special about the ones who have grown up right there beside me. 🫶🏼🥹❤️⁣

TRUSTING GOD HAS COME EASIER WITH AGE.⁣
⁣
When I was a teenager I liked to think that I was in control.⁣
⁣
That destiny, luck, and circumstance dictated your life.⁣
⁣
I grew up in a religious home.⁣
⁣
We went to church almost every Sunday.⁣
⁣
I was baptized at the age of 10. ⁣
⁣
I was very familiar with who God was.⁣
⁣
But, we weren’t necessarily “close” (YET).⁣
⁣
When I quit OT school with no back up plan I hit rock bottom.⁣
⁣
I had no clue what was next for me.⁣
⁣
I wasn’t certain that I would ever be successful or have a job that I loved.⁣
⁣
But, then things started to shift in my heart.⁣
⁣
I started to lean into the God that for so many years I pushed away.⁣
⁣
I was listening instead of speaking.⁣
⁣
And, followed every nudge that he gave me.⁣
⁣
Looking back, he has always been faithful but, my eyes didn’t always see it.⁣
⁣
But, I see it now.⁣
⁣
More clearly than ever.⁣
⁣
I’ve seen the mountains that he’s moved.⁣
⁣
I’ve seen the valleys that he’s gotten me through.⁣
⁣
I’ve seen the peace that only he can give.⁣
⁣
And, it’s a beautiful place to be (even when everything is crumbling around you).⁣
⁣
I don’t ever believe pushing religion on people is the way to spread His name.⁣
⁣
That is just NOT it and NOT me.
⁣
But, I do want to be a testament on how good He has been in my life. 🤍⁣
⁣
I will never stop running to Him.⁣
⁣
I will never stop singing His praises.⁣
⁣
He is good ALL. THE. TIME.

Where I could be picky and choosy about who and what I work I take on.⁣
⁣
Where I have to turn away the sweetest couples bc my calendar is filled up.⁣
⁣
To be honest, I just never thought this small town girl with big dreams would get here.⁣
⁣
I just figured I would always be in that hustler “you take what you can get, when you can get it” mentality and that was how your business survived.⁣
⁣
But, I’ve learned that it’s quite the opposite.⁣
⁣
I get asked all the time…⁣
⁣
“Ashley, how do you attract your ideal clients?”⁣
⁣
“How do YOUR people find you?”⁣
⁣
The answer is simple. ⁣
⁣
1. NICHE THE HELL OUT OF YOURSELF.⁣
⁣
2. GET PERSONABLE.⁣
⁣
3. MAKE MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS.⁣
⁣
4. HELP OTHERS RISE WITH YOU.⁣
⁣
5. PUT THE WORK OUT THERE THAT YOU WANT TO ATTRACT.⁣
⁣
And, it will come.⁣
⁣
I remember the first time I booked an actual PAID session and how mind boggling it was that they wanted to pay me $50 for a one hour session. I was ECSTATIC. 😅🙈⁣
⁣
^^^ I think it’s so easy to say “yes” to anything and everything (especially when you’re just starting out).⁣
⁣
But, there is soooooo much power in “no”.⁣
⁣
Saying “no” allows you to…⁣
⁣
Set boundaries.⁣
⁣
Find your voice.⁣
⁣
Do dream work that fulfills you.⁣
⁣
While also giving you time to actually live YOUR OWN life (outside of work).⁣
⁣
My advice to you newbies out there: ⁣
⁣
SAY “NO” MORE.⁣
⁣
It sounds counter-productive, I know.⁣
⁣
But, you (and your sanity) will thank me later. 🥲🫶🏼
