Elise + Will šŸ¤

These two met out West while working as camp counselors and spending their winters on the slopes of Utah.
Two adventurous souls from the East Coast who somehow traveled across the country… only to discover they actually lived just a few hours from each other.

Kismet, if you will.

There’s something so wildly free about the way they love each other. The kind of love that feels like chasing sunsets, getting lost on purpose, windows down, mountains ahead.

So for their engagement session, I wanted it to feel less posed and more like them movement, wind, laughter, muddy boots, blurry moments, and the kind of memories that feel bigger than a photograph.

Honestly one of those sessions that felt like stepping into someone’s story for a little while. šŸ¤

Imagine knowing exactly what you want to say… but your mouth won’t let you say it.

That’s what it’s like to live with Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Today is Apraxia Awareness Day, and in our home, this day means everything.

Liam was diagnosed with Apraxia at just 3 years old. Today, he’s 14.

If you met him now, you might never realize the battles he’s fought to find his voice. You might hear him speak and assume it came naturally. But what you’re really hearing is the result of years of relentless hard work, determination, and courage.

More than a decade of speech therapy.
Countless hours of practice.
Frustration. Tears. Setbacks.
And through it all
grit, resilience, and perseverance.

Liam never gave up. Not once.

He has taught me more about strength than almost anyone I know. His courage isn’t loud; it’s quiet and steady.

He always understood the world around him. The world just didn’t always understand him.

I will never forget the first time I saw other kids make fun of the way he talked. It shattered me. But Liam handled it with a quiet grace and strength that told me something heartbreaking:

this wasn’t the first time.

So today, we share his story not just to raise awareness, but to ask for compassion.

Talk to the child who sounds different.
Listen a little longer.
Be patient.
Celebrate every voice — even the ones that take a little more time to be heard.

Liam is my hero.

And his voice, no matter how long it took to rise, is one of the most powerful and beautiful things I’ve ever heard.

He is proof that hard things are worth fighting for.

Happy Apraxia Awareness Day
—from a family who understands what it means to fight for every word.

Motherhood is rarely still.

It’s laughter with your eyes closed.
Tiny hands pulling at your dress.
Sticky fingers.
Chaos in the background.
Holding one baby while another runs through the frame.

And the truth is
it doesn’t always take the perfect outfit or some breathtaking backdrop.
Sometimes the most beautiful photographs are simply the ones that feel honest.
The ones that look like your real life.

The beautiful part is…
years from now, those are usually the moments that matter most.

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms holding it all together softly, imperfectly, and beautifully.

And today, we’re also holding space for the ones carrying something heavier.
For the women longing to become mothers.
For the mothers who have experienced loss.
For those grieving their own mom or missing them deeply today.
For the single moms carrying everything on their shoulders.
For the strained relationships, the complicated stories, the quiet heartbreaks that often go unseen.
For the mothers doing their best while feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or unseen.
For the grandmothers, stepmothers, adoptive mothers, mother figures, and the women who love and nurture others so deeply.

Mother’s Day can hold both joy and grief at the same time.

So wherever this day finds you, we’re thinking of you and sending you so much love today.

Today we celebrate Michael Robert Olson šŸ¤

The world became a better place the day he was born and I’ve had the absolute privilege of loving and celebrating him for the last 20 years.

Michael is the kind of person who makes everything and everyone better.
He is selfless, steady, compassionate, thoughtful, and endlessly present. The kind of man who shows up fully, every single time… not for recognition, but because that’s just who he is.
And truly… he’s really cute too šŸ˜‰
I’m sharing this here because there is no Olson Design Photography without him.
He believed in me long before this business had a name, a client, or a direction. I’ll never forget the day he surprised me with a camera for my birthday and started telling everyone we met,
ā€œMy wife is a professional photographer.ā€
It didn’t matter that I hadn’t shot a single wedding yet…he saw it before I ever could.

If you’ve had Michael at your wedding, you already know…
He is the calm in the chaos.
The one making sure you’ve eaten.
The one adjusting details, carrying tables, checking on your people, fixing the unexpected without ever making it feel like a problem.
The kind of person who doesn’t just show up to do a job
he shows up to serve people well.
And that’s who he is in every part of life.
I feel incredibly lucky that I get to do life with him, build this dream with him, and call him mine.
Happy Birthday to my favorite person šŸ¤
I can’t wait to celebrate you.

ā€œā€˜First looks feel performative.’

I hear that a lot… and honestly, I get it.

Somewhere along the way, the wedding industry turned them into these big, perfectly timed reactions.
Something to capture… instead of something to actually feel.

But the moments I’ve witnessed? They look nothing like that.
and they never have to be that way.

They’re quiet.
A little shaky.
Sometimes awkward in the sweetest way.

It’s just two people seeing each other, reading their words, letting it all hit before the day takes over. No one else around. No pressure to react a certain way.

And what I’ve seen over and over again… is that the aisle moment doesn’t lose anything
it gains something.

Because nothing is being held back anymore.
You’ve already felt it.

So when you see each other again, it’s deeper. Softer. And somehow even more emotional for everyone there.

I will never push or try to convince anyone to do a first look.
But I do want people to see what these moments actually look like… when they’re just real.

18 & 21.
No plan… just us.
We fell fast, grew up together,
and built a life louder, messier, and more beautiful than we imagined.
Three boys. Endless love. Still running toward it all.
