Hi Everyone,
I am excited to announce the rebranding and redoing of my photography work and website. Retiring my old AOL screen name-based website, my work will now be known as Spectrum Shots. Specializing in events, peforming arts, and special needs photography.
I have been both working in special education, and doing photography since 2008. In special ed, I have held a variety of roles and had many responsibilities -- from paraprofessional to program coordinator and everything in between, I have almost 15 years of experience serving those with special needs. In that time, I have seen many photographers try to work with and get photos of people with special needs while not understanding their needs, triggers, and behaviors. Due to my experience in the field, I know that you can't just jam a camera with a high-powered flash in someone's face who may have sensory issues, and expect them to sit still while you get a good photograph. I try to set up the environment for success, making the clients feel safe, secure, and happy, and sit back and capture a more natural photograph.
With respect to photography, I got my start in performing arts photography after my photos were noticed by National Amusements, who asked me to work for one of their night clubs doing concert and event photography. I worked there for years while building a client list, expanding my expertise, and honing my skills. I eventually came to work for various television shows, doing promo shoots and stills, as well as other night clubs, artists, and events in and around New England. With concerts and performing arts, you have to be ready to capture the action, anticipate the moments, and be ready to get the photos.
I take these two approaches -- the person first and client focused mantra of special education combined with the ready-at-any-moment approach to performing arts photography and use that to inform my photography and capture the moment. Available for special needs photography, portraits, events, engagements, and concerts, I will be sure to capture special moments that you will cherish for a lifetime.
