The COO for the YMCA of Greater Boston reached out because he wanted a creative video presentation that would WOW the audience. Every year the YMCA of USA hosts a COO conference and next year happens to be in Boston. After a few consultation visits, and some brainstorming I proposed 3 ideas. 1 we’re going to do next year and 1 was to be shown at the current convention in Denver.
Boston is one of the most historic cities in the country. There’ are a lot of firsts here. The first: public school, public beach, public park, college, post office, printing press, subway, YMCA, and the list goes on and on. But I’d argue that Boston is most known for the accent. There’s no mistaking when you hear a Bostonian speak! So I figured we create a welcome video hosted by a Bostonian.
When creating videos and working with busy people, I try to make things easy as possible - and that means taking things into my own hands. I started working on the copy and spent a couple days shooting amazing pictures of Boston.
The initial target time was about one to two minutes. But we filmed so much juicy content it was hard to get it under 5. Editing video can be tough. But if the content keeps the audience engaged time doesn’t really matter. The vast majority of commercials I see on tv are really bad. But once in a blue when I see a commercial that’s creative I wonder why every commercial can’t be made that way.
The video presentation was a huge success and from what I hear people were laughing so much that they may have missed some parts. Vinny is now a star within the Boston YMCA and he’ll probably open up next years conference.
