The Patowmack Company was a pet project of with the goal of making the navigable from Georgetown to the Ohio River Valley. The project included a canal around the of the Potomac. These canals would kick off several decades of canal building which would carry American goods until the railroads came through.

We are officially home in DC. While my travels will continue, it will soon be time to find a new home for my amazing van. We set off a little less than 9 years ago and have traveled 92,530 miles together. We’ve been through 35 states, seen two oceans, all 5 Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. We’ve been through a lot together and she’s been everything I could have hoped for and more.

I like it when things come full circle. I was really happy to spend the last night of our adventure together in the same place we spent our first night 8 years and 10 months ago. That night was super cold in mid-November and last night was steamy and 80°, but we made it through both. Nothing left now but to make it home, just over an hour away. What a long, strange trip it’s been!

Had a great afternoon exploring ! I especially enjoyed visiting what’s left of League Park, a storied baseball stadium where pitched the first game played there for the Cleveland Spiders. It’s also where hit his 500th home run. The Cleveland Buckeyes won two Negro League titles there. Cleveland is such a cool city with so much history. I love it!
