Sunset at Dream Lake last summer. I’d hiked up not expecting much, the clouds didn’t look great from my campsite at Glacier Basin, but it turned out to be a beautiful evening in Rocky Mountain National Park.

I stood there for about thirty minutes, just watching the light do its thing. Then it was gone. Colorado doesn’t owe you moments like this, but when they come around I tend to soak in every last second.

Sunrise along the Big Thompson River
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

I usually shoot to the west during sunrise, as often the best views are of the first light hitting the peaks of the Continental Divide, however, on this morning I couldn’t help but notice this composition with the river leading out to the burning sky in the distance.
