Gothic Mountain Wildflower Sunset

I just got home from a week of photographing wildflowers around Crested Butte, Colorado. While the blooms aren't as dense and vibrant as previous years, there are plenty of lupine, mules ears, glacier lilies, and even some columbine in the valleys. The scene below shows Gothic Mountain and Mt. Crested Butte during a vibrant sunset.

Another photo from a spectacular morning at the Maroon Bells just up the valley from Aspen, Colorado. I enjoyed shooting the morning light about an hour after sunrise even more than the actually dawn light on the bells. When the light finally hit the aspen forest on the lake shore, the whole scene just came to life!

Sunrise at the Maroon Bells this morning.

I was lucky enough to get a campsite along Maroon Creek Road, giving me access to Maroon Lake without a reservation.

Last night’s sunset was a dud, but this morning the Bells caught the first light like they always do, the water was still enough for a reflection. There were even clouds behind the peaks to top it off!

This is peak Colorado in the summer, and there isn’t much that beats a quiet morning at the most photographed mountains in the state!

Headed back here for some more wildflower goodness this week! Next stop, though, Independence Pass then Maroon Bells!

Summit County Wildflower Sunset

I've heard that the wildflowers aren't panning out to look as good as they did last year in this area. I'll still stop by and check it out on my way to the Elk Mountains during my upcoming trip next week.

“Raining Fire in the Sky”

I was almost to the summit of Mt. Blue Sky when the whole sky just went off. I pulled over at the first spot I could and caught this view of Grays and Torreys catching the last of it in the distance. You can also see the Sawtooth ridge below and off to the left -- this spine connects Blue Sky over to Bierstadt.

The sunset didn’t last long, but these special moments never do. I’ll take being in the right pullout at the right minute over a planned
shoot any day. Hope all of my enjoy and have a great weekend!

Drove up Blue Sky the other evening not expecting much… then the sunset exploded! My friend was kind enough to take some videos of me photographing it. Colorful Colorado always putting on a show!
