A Common Merganser swimming in the beautiful shadows of the canyon. I never like when species have ‘common’ in their name. Can’t we channel a little Anne of Green Gables and call it something more whimsical? Merganser of the Shining Waters? Enchanted Merganser? 🤔

I still can hardly believe I found this hummingbird nest on my own last weekend. This was one of the more magical moments I’ve experienced, watching this little fairy bird zip around the forest and return back to the perfect little nest, completely camouflaged on a tree branch.

One of my favorite animals to sit and observe isn’t a traditionally exciting species, but the humble prairie dog. I love how they look out for their coterie, how they communicate excitement with their little leaping yips, and how absolutely adorable they look as they nibble on grass.
