Back in February, I joined Gray Muzzle Society in the Amazon to document their community vet work, and I’ve finally written the whole story: the river, the heat, a dog named Blade, and the kids who helped me find dogs to photograph.

Sunrise at the trailhead, and Scarlatti bounded out of the car. A total firecracker. Just pure, unadulterated wiggles and enthusiasm, ready to hit one of my favorite trails in the Boulder foothills.

This is my second time getting to photograph Lisa and Scarlatti and I just absolutely love them. I know I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating: I’m so grateful for my lovely repeat clients who trust me to document their lives here in Colorado. Plus, there’s something so cool about photographing a duo a second time around because you already know their personalities.

You know that Scarlatti is going to tear down the trail like a maniac (slide 3 is pure joy), but you also know that the exact second she’s back in Lisa’s arms with the Flatirons in the background, she’s a total snuggle bug. That contrast gets me every single time. 😄

There is nothing quite like capturing the bond between a dog and their human during an outdoor adventure session. 🐾🏔️

I’ve had a run of Corgis lately, and honestly, I’m not mad about it. Every dog brings a different energy to the session, and I’ve had the good fortune of working with Sammy and Sophie on several occasions.

I’ll never get over Sophie’s sweet sugar face and that corgi smile. 😊

Casting: Dog models for a national commercial project

I’m currently casting dogs for a shoot here in the Denver/Boulder area on May 20th. This project is for a pet treat and C*D company, and we’ll be capturing photos of the products being used and administered.

We are looking for rescues and mixed breeds of all colors, sizes, and ages!

◾ The Details:
* Date: Wednesday, May 20th
* Location: Denver/Boulder area
* Time: 2 hours between 4–8 pm
* Compensation provided

◾ Is your dog a good fit? Since we are photographing the product being used, we’re looking for dogs who are very comfortable being handled, have a soft mouth for taking treats, and can hold a steady wait even when a treat is right in front of them.

◾ How to Apply: Click the link in my bio to fill out the casting form.

Applications close Monday, May 11th.

“Echo’s colors will begin to fade as she grows up. She’ll never look exactly like this again.”

Marnie said this during our session, and it hit me how true that is for every puppy. We talk about them getting bigger, but we forget that their markings shift, their coats change texture, and that deep puppy pigment begins to lighten into the dog she’s going to be for the next decade.

It’s easy to focus on how fast they’re growing out of their harnesses, but we’re losing more than just their smallness every day. We’re watching a version of them disappear.

How magical it is to bottle up this specific, fleeting version of puppyhood before it’s gone. 🧡🐾

As we head into my favorite time of year for Colorado dog photography, I’ve noticed one big question popping up in my inbox: "Is an Adventure session too much for my dog?" (Or alternatively, "Is a Portrait session enough?")

I’m breaking down the TL;DR on the blog today. From wardrobe choices to "trail time" and what high-res digital files are included, here is exactly how these two experiences differ. And, perhaps more importantly, how to choose the one that feels most like you. 🧡

Don’t mind me, I’m still just over here geeking out about cinematic dog videography. 😄

I’m continuing to work at it (thanks to for being my guinea pigs this time!) and I’m obsessed with how it captures the little in-between moments, like this sweet forehead kiss.

I’m currently refining my video skills but I’d love to know if you would ever book a session that was just for a standalone short film? I’m envisioning these as possibly their own dedicated experience, focused entirely on video instead of stills.

Tell me your thoughts in the comments! Is that something you’d be interested in booking? 👇

I finally put it all in one place! I’ve spent 15 years photographing dogs in the Rockies, and I just launched a massive guide covering everything from the best seasons for photos to what to wear for a high-alpine session. (Link in comments.)

Adventure looks a little different at twelve. Although Zoey may have traded pheasant hunts for golf cart rides, her unshakeable capacity for joy hasn’t slowed down (as evidenced by a tail that quite literally never stopped wagging).

It was such a privilege to photograph a dog this brave; one who has faced so much, yet remains entirely, eternally rooted in the present. 🐾🧡
