I've had people tell me to not get political on my business accounts, but weddings are inherently political when one party wants to take the right to marriage away from so many couples. When people don't have the right to choose if and when to become parents in many states. When one party spends $215M in TV ads attacking trans rights, rather than do anything to actually help the people voting for them. If you're a wedding vendor and you're still afraid to speak up in favor of LGBTQ+ rights, it's never to late to join the right side of history. And if you voted for him, please speak up about that too so couples can know exactly who you are and book their vendors accordingly.

There's something so extravagant about carrying a wedding cake up a mountain, only to dig in with your forks for the sweetest cake & champagne breakfast on the trail. Yes, it's extra, but your elopement is supposed to be just that!

Kara and Melissa opened their vows with "it's been a long time coming" and you'd really think Taylor wrote those words just for them. After more than ten years together they finally made it official with an intimate elopement in Buena Vista last week, and it was such a joy to witness and capture the day!

I'm learning that if the goal of running my own business is to create a life I love, I have to also live my life outside of my business. That's exactly what I've been doing this spring. Stepping back a bit from marketing (because I'm already booked up through the fall), and spending more time outside in the dirt than at my computer (literally IN the dirt—landscaping our yard and building a garden).

I have two more weeks before my elopement season kicks off, and you're probably not gonna see me on here much until then, so here's a photo I took of the Matterhorn back when I was a cool traveling photographer rather than a small town mom!✌️

to the unsung heros of elopements:

the hair & makeup artists who'll make sure you look good even after a thundersnowstorm blows through your vows ( ++)

the florists who know that a bouquet has to stand up to wild weather ( ++)

the videographers who enhance every part of the day with their presence, and will carry your dress through the mud ( ++)

the chefs who'll pour you hot toddies and feed you the best potatoes of your life when you get back to your airbnb after a long day in the mountains ( ++)

and to the couples who hire us all!

I might be getting sentimental at the end of the season, but it's truly such an honor to get to work together with my favorite friendors with one goal in common: for you to have the best elopement day you could imagine.

No one *wants* rain at their elopement, but even in a dry state like Colorado there is always a chance that we'll get a few drops (or a full storm).

The forecast for Elyse and Alex's elopement was ... not great. Rainy all day, heavy cloud coverage, and thunderstorms on and off throughout the day.

And it's hard not to worry when you see a bad forecast, and have 8 hours of outdoor adventure time planned. But we stayed optimistic, kept our original plan, and it paid off.

It drizzled a bit while E & A got ready, then cleared up in time for their first look. The rest of the day was GORGEOUS. At the very end, they sat down to enjoy a sweet treat with a view, and we saw the storm come rolling towards us. Five minutes later it was raining, and we pulled out my umbrellas for a few last photos before heading back into town to video chat with their parents.

And instead of being upset about the rain stealing our sunset, I think all three of us were excited that we got so much out of a day that had looked so miserable on the forecast.

The secret to the perfect elopement is not perfect weather. It's your ability to stay excited and connected, no matter what happens.

(It's a pretty important lesson for the marriage that follows your elopement, too.)

I'm so glad I get to work with couples like E&A who get it!

I'm heading back out to Crested Butte today, and realized I hadn't even posted these from my last elopement there in August. Last night my husband and I were daydreaming of living in CB year-round, because there's nowhere in Colorado I would rather call home. For now, I'll keep making the drive for work as often as I can.

I used to be adamant about not offering family photos .. but then my couples all started having babies, and here I am. I photographed Anya and Alex's elopement in 2020, so it was really special to work with them again this summer now that little Zoya has joined their family!

Katie and Terry combined an elopement in the mountains with a small reception at Black Cat, and it might just be my new favorite micro-wedding venue in the Boulder area: a beautiful farm, incredible food, the perfect golden hour light, and big fluffy working dogs who love being pet by wedding guests. It doesn't get better!
