Green sea turtles are actually the fastest turtles reaching speeds of 13mph underwater to outrun predators. By comparison, top Olympic swimmers reach about 5mph.

It's been pretty challenging to get good shots of sea turtle hatchlings due to the choppy seas and high levels of seaweed. But it's even more challenging for this newly hatched loggerhead to navigate the same obstacles. Piles of seaweed act as a barrier to the water after leaving the nest. But a few miles offshore the same type of seaweed becomes an oasis of food and shelter for this turtle to grow and hide from predators.
