The Big Dipper seems to get regularly overshadowed by the Milky Way so here's a nice reflection of the big guy over a boardwalk at Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. To tip the scales back a bit.

The light on the horizon is coming from West Yellowstone.

I really liked the interplay between light and shadow caused by the houselights coming through the trees. And the northern lights didn't hurt the compositions either ;)

Here's another composition from the ghost Town of Bannack Montana.

This one is made up of a single 60 second exposure for the foreground and a single 8 second exposure for the sky. I processed both images in Lightroom and blended them together in Photoshop.

Honestly this image makes me question why I even bother Stacking sky shots half the time.

Here's another shot from the ghost town of Bannack, MT

I really wanted to get a shot that incorporated this cottonwood tree. This was still pretty shortly after sunset so the sky was not completely dark yet. I managed to squeeze three buildings into the composition as well which I like. This is a single 13 second exposure. I hope to be able to go back someday and get this shot absolutely perfect but for the time being I am pretty happy with it.

Although it did not line up with the core of the Milky Way Galaxy I still wanted to get a shot of the Bannack Methodist ...

Although it did not line up with the core of the Milky Way Galaxy I still wanted to get a shot of the Bannack Methodist Church under the stars. With the addition of all the airglow this particular evening I am glad I took the time to do so.

On the evening of July 11 Bozeman Camera and Marc Morris from Tamron took 10 of us into Bannack Ghost Town in MT for a couple hours of shooting under the stars. Just wanted to thank them for the opportunity. It was a really unique experience. And another quick thank you for obliging my request to turn off all the light painting apparatus for a few minutes while I banged out this shot near the entrance to the town.

This image is composed of a single long exposure for the foreground and a stack of 37 exposures for the sky. I stacked the images in Starry Landscape Stacker, processed them in Lightroom, and blended them in Photoshop.

Sometimes you just gotta let it fly. Stay cool out there today everyone.

You are looking at the Northern Lights over the south end of the Bridgers. I wanted to capture lots of car trails passing by on I90 in these particular shots. This was from the evening of July 3rd at one of the main peaks in the storm.
