I recently received a juicy question from a client & wanted to share my thoughts with you today!! "How do you handle Family Portrait time?" Okay, so this is a good question since Family portrait time during the wedding day can get a little dicey if you are not prepared as a photographer! Even if you are prepped and have your list ready and a photo helper, things still can go off the rails! Oh my word!! I've been shooting weddings for a hot second, and i've seen lots of situations come up (just ask my second shooters haha!!) The best advice I can give a photographer shooting the wedding, or a couple that wants everything to go smoothly is this.... be prepared! Have a LIST, a certain number of groupings (mine is not to go over 18, unless I know we have enough time to do more), and PATIENCE! Deep breaths when you start feeling the tension, and their occasionally IS tension! One wedding I had a bride just literally leave... she said I can't take the drama and walked away to calm down. I just acted like No big Deal, and kept photographing (I went to the Grooms side of the list). You have to be not only a photographer on wedding days, but sometimes a counselor too! I was able to calm the bride and got everything back on track thanks to my second shooter and the coordinator! It takes a team friends!!
