The late night/early morning of September 18/19 beautiful Aurora danced across the sky. Then near midnight, stretched across the zenith from east to west, intersecting the Milky Way, STEVE appeared!
STEVE is a Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement that only appears during the Aurora. Bold light lines in shades of green and purple there is typically a picket fence type projection involved. Typically further south and away from the main Northern Light Projections. STEVE is a relatively new phenomenon that recently began being researched further. It was an impressive storm, even if the Aurora didn't dance overhead as they did back earlier this year.
