I am deeply honored and thankful to have three pieces from “Always Flourishing” in this exhibition!
Attending the opening reception this weekend was a wonderful experience, allowing me to see the and connect with other female art educators. I am also so thankful to have shared this opportunity with my mother, who helped me make this work about her own family, and a family friend who knew my grandparents.
If you find yourself in Atlanta, consider visiting this lovely exhibition! It’s up through the end of the month.

Yesterday really was the perfect day to end my exhibition and share this work with these students. Four years ago yesterday, we buried my grandpa Green. February really is a month of anniversaries for me and my family.
A special thank you to and for hosting me as a visiting artist this semester! I was able to lead two workshops with both photography and 2D students, teaching them the Polaroid emulsion lift process and discussing artistic practice.
It was such an honor to share my work and creative process with these young artists, and see them develop an interest in alternative photographic processes. I hope they keep working with it!

Women Alternative Photography Group is a feminist research project celebrating women, trans, and non-binary artists from all backgrounds working with alternative photographic processes. Founded in March 2023 by artist and researcher Dr. Elizabeth Ransom, the Women Alternative Photography Group aims to foster the development of new knowledge and research, promote and support underrepresented groups, and create a community of like-minded people.
I will be sharing more on my recent series, “Always Flourishing.” I am so excited to share more on this work and talk about where my work will go next.

I made a new piece for an upcoming exhibition!
When I first began this work in 2022, it started as a purely digital process. But I knew it was meant to exist in a different way. I eventually stumbled upon the Polaroid lift process and immediately knew that was the way this work needed to be seen. Three and a half years later, and the work is still evolving!

It has been two months since my last post, I have a few new followers, and I have never actually made an introductory post before. So, now seems like the perfect time!
For those who do not know me, my name is Rebekah Alviani (Bekah in informal settings) and I am a lens-based artist-educator. That means my creative work starts within a camera lens - for the most part, anyway. I have 10, going on 11 years of teaching experience, with five of those years in higher education.
My creative practice currently focuses on exploring the relationship between images, objects, and memory. Since 2022, I have been using this relationship to process the death of my last living grandparent and to delve into my family’s history.
I teach full time, and work to make and exhibit my art in what spare time I have. So, my posting may seem sporadic. But I hope you enjoy the work you see, and stick around to see what is coming next!

I’ve been sitting on this news for a while. But since my contract technically starts today, I guess it’s the perfect time to announce that I have moved again and have a new job!
This year, I will be teaching at Western Carolina University as an Assistant Professor of Practice, specializing in Photography. I am very excited to be joining this program, and I even get to work with my first graduate students (who have been amazing so far)!!!
Here’s to a new adventure, and a wonderful first semester.

I am deeply honored to have a piece on display with in the JFAC Gallery at Northern State University.
nice;03 is the third annual national juried exhibition, a survey of contemporary artists exploring complex personal and social narratives. The exhibition assembles over 30 artists from across the nation working in various mediums and concepts, selected from over 400 submissions. These artists each share a unique vision of our contemporary world.
The image selected for inclusion, titled “The Greens”, is a photograph of my grandfather with his four children - my mother, aunt, and uncles. We believe my grandmother took the image since she is not in it. The third image shows this piece as it is installed in the exhibition, along with other beautiful works.
The exhibition is on display until September 14th, with a closing reception being held on September 11th from 6-8 pm.

I am thrilled to be included in MUSE, an exhibition featuring various creatives in the Carolinas.
While the exhibition is up through the 25th, there is a reception being held this Friday, the 11th, from 6pm to 9pm as part of this month’s First Fridays - Greenville.
The images selected for inclusion are images of my late grandparents home. “1426” (the third image in the post) is an image of the front of their house, and was always the first thing I’d see when visiting them. “Family Gatherings” (the fourth image in the post) is an image of an old picnic pavilion that stood in the backyard for years.

Ten years ago, my parents drove me to Philadelphia to begin my Peace Corps experience. Ten years.
I do not post personal stories on this account much these days, but this anniversary means a great deal to me. So much has changed in the last decade. But one thing is for certain - I would not be where I am and doing what I am today without my Peace Corps service. Because of what I did as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, I am now an artist-educator. My service shaped me in so many ways, some I was expecting and others I was not. It was some of the best days of my life, and some of the worst. There are things I would have done differently, but overall, I would not change any of it.
Recently, Peace Corps experienced operational cuts that are already reshaping its future. But it still has a valuable place in our world. I hope and pray that the legacy of the Peace Corps not only continues, but that it flourishes.Peace CorpssPeace Corps Ghanaa
