Where in the World Is TiffsPix? Whether part of God’s natural world or man-made, I enjoy the challenge of capturing the beauty that surrounds us.

I am fascinated with the smallest details, the effects of light, and the sheer volume of things yet to be observed.

Perched among the fresh spring leaves of Slate Lick Fields in Fulks Run, Virginia, this vibrant Indigo Bunting seems to celebrate the return of blue skies after a week of steady rain. Bathed in sunlight, its brilliant cobalt plumage mirrors the clear sky behind it—a striking reminder that fair weather always follows the storm. As migratory songbirds return to the Shenandoah Valley each spring, the Indigo Bunting's cheerful presence brings a splash of color, renewed energy, and a welcome sign that brighter days have arrived.

Dark “bandit mask” through the eyes and the distinctive dark stripe from the snout through the eye toward the shoulders are the most recognizable traits of a Wood Frog. Wood frogs are famous because they can survive being frozen solid in winter. Their bodies produce natural antifreeze compounds that protect their cells until they thaw in spring.

Built in 1749, this church stands as the oldest Presbyterian church in continuous use in Virginia. Its sturdy limestone walls and graceful steeple reflect both colonial craftsmanship and enduring faith. Set against the vivid colors of autumn, this historic sanctuary represents a timeless peace—its weathered stone and slate roof telling stories of generations who gathered here beneath the Shenandoah sky.

The church was built under the leadership of Rev. John Craig, who was the first settled Presbyterian minister in the Shenandoah Valley.
The congregation itself was formed around 1740, originally meeting in a log meetinghouse. As the community grew and tensions with Native American tribes increased on the frontier, the members decided to construct a more permanent and fortified stone structure.

While the specific names of the individual builders or stonemasons are not recorded, the church was built by local Scots-Irish settlers using limestone quarried nearby. The result is one of the most enduring examples of colonial frontier architecture still standing today.

I stand where a thinker once shaped a new nation,
My bricks hold the dreams of a great declaration.
Fields roll before me, the mountains stand near,
A mansion of red where ideas were clear.
Fourth of his office, wise and sincere,
What Virginia home could this be, my dear?
