Great blue heron during winter, my favorite subject of all to put in front of a camera.
Even though I am not a winter person, person se, there is one particular aspect of it i absolutely love, photographing the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge during what I call the "dreads of winter", the coldest, harshest part of the season, usually comprising the weeks from late December through early February.

Great news, I thought i heard tundra swans on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge yesterday and it was confirmed today when I was told someone saw a small flock Saturday. The swans are arriving, and they usually peak during the middle of November.

There's a bald eagle in there somewhere. This is 1 of 2 young bald eagles I saw on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge today, despite being very slow for birds otherwise. This bald eagle flew over a flock of gulls and white-faced ibis, stirring them up for a bit. Since its much too early for the northern eagles to migrate to Utah, I am certain this has to be a locally fledged eagle, maybe even from one of the 3 known bald eagle nests in Box Elder County
