I don't know how it's possible to experience a scene like this and not feel peace in one's soul.

This is the Great Salt Lake and one of the places that never misses when I need an inner cleansing from the chaos of society; no phones, no cameras, no laptops.

Nothing except peace and serenity for a few minutes.

While I was out birdwatching this evening, watching a peregrine falcon I wrote about on my website earlier today, to be more precise, I was blessed to see this scene as the sun went down.

I have a problem, a big problem if I want to be completely honest here; I am a photographer.

And being a photographer there is no off switch in my head for photography so when I see something of intetest, even when all I have is my phone to capture it; I have to stop and take a picture.

It doesn't matter, like just now, for example, if it's near 100 degrees outside and I am walking up the narrow shoulder of a busy highway for the best angle, I still have to take a photo.

It doesn't even matter if my last 50 images stunk, and many times they do, I still have to take a photo.

When I am in the zone, nothing matters because, well, I am a photographer and I have to take a photo.

This image was my latest effort to capture something intetesting with just my phone because, let's face it, I wasn't going to sleep tonight if I let even just one scene get away from me without even trying.

I am a photographer.

I crossed paths with this peregrine falcon today near the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, not a common sighting by any means despite being year-round residents here.

Today, while heading put to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge auto tour route I crossed paths with this Swainson's hawk finishing a mouse.

The auto tour route was very dry with hardly any birds but this particular raptor sighting more than made up for the disappointing trip today.

If you have never been to the Great Salt Lake at sunset, this is what you are missing.

I have never experienced a more peaceful sunset than out there.

If we lose this lake we risk losing more than just a body of water, we lose a connection to the natural world that can't be experienced any where else, this place touches the soul.

I've got a nest of western kingbirds in my yard with 4 babies and today I recorded the parents bringing them food.
Birdwatching doesn't need to be expensive or time consuming with a lot of traveling, it can be done sitting on the front porch like I was when I recorded this short clip.
