There are some mornings where you just had to be there…

It was the last sunrise of my recent trip to the Upper Peninsula. My alarm rang at 4:15 AM, and I was more than ready to sleep a little longer. But the thought of going home to my wife and kids carried me down the shoreline one last time.

I scouted this area the night before and knew that if anything was going to work, it would be right here. I walked in through the darkness with only a headlamp, and just as I pulled the camera from the bag… God turned up the color.

I set up and locked into the composition I’d planned the night before. This single photograph closed out one of my favorite trips in recent memory. One filled with faith, friendship, and incredible experiences.

I hope you all have a beautiful Sunday.

God bless!

Sometimes a photograph is more than a photograph. It becomes a bridge back to another time.

I wrote a short essay to accompany this one. I’ll include it in the comments if you’d like to read it.

A big focus of this year’s spring trip was following what truly spoke to me. Not photographs that felt “good enough,” but photographs made with intention.

It took me back to the early days of photography, something I’m excited to revisit and explore more this year.

Thank you for being here and for your continued support. It means a lot.

Have a great Friday!

Sunset reflections on Lake Superior.

Hard to beat the colors that show up right after sunset. That brief window is magic. Clouds or not, it always offers something.

The setting sun laid a beautiful gradient across the sky. My favorite part of this photograph is the silhouette of the Porcupine Mountains in the upper left. Look closely and you can see the peaks rising above the tree line.

Thanks for being here. If Great Lakes evenings are your thing, follow along! I’ll be sharing more soon.

Ghosts of the past...

A stand of pines reflects in the calm blue water as storms develop overhead on a rainy spring morning in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Sometimes, the photograph requires you to do a little more than usual.

This was certainly one of those times. I noticed this stand of pines in the distance, but I could not quite reach it with my telephoto lens. My options were to walk through the swampland in front of me, or fly the drone over to it.

After checking the airspace and confirming I was clear, I sent the drone out over the water.

It was hovering barely two feet above the surface here, so I had to be careful not to trigger the landing sequence accidentally as I got closer and closer to the water.

A great morning with fantastic light, quiet water, and just enough drama in the sky to give the entire scene a little tension.

This past week has been eye-opening in so many unexpected ways. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I took the week off social media to really immerse myself in the photographic process. No scheduling, no worrying about reach… just God, me, and my camera. And honestly? It was one of the best weeks I’ve had in a while.

It put a lot into perspective. I was out there chasing what mattered to me, seeing the world in the way only I can. And God closed the experience with one message: Ecclesiastes 1:12–18. The endless pursuit of wisdom, and the reminder that life isn’t meant to be self-satisfying on its own.

We find meaning when we center our lives on Him.

On this Memorial Day, I’m dedicating this photograph to my late father. A Marine who served in Vietnam and later passed away from complications connected to Agent Orange.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who have lost a loved one in service to their country.

Have a beautiful day, folks.

Happy Sunday, everyone! I just got back from an incredible spring trip, and I took the last week off social media to really immerse myself in the process and enjoy it in a more personal way.

I’ve got some new work I’ll be sharing soon, but for now I just wanted to say thank you for being here and for all the support. I can’t wait to share the photographs and stories ahead.

Have a great Sunday!

Some of my favorite parts of photography are the mornings you know you’ll remember. The calm peace. The quiet reverence. When everything falls into place without forcing it.

My wife and little kids were still sleeping back at the hotel. A promise of the water park and a big breakfast later was in the back of my mind. But first… a quick hike.

This morning. This moment. One I think back to often.

Have a beautiful Sunday, folks. Thank you for being here.

I’ll admit it, art can be tough. The constant internal battle between “Is this even good?” and “I know I could’ve done it better.” I’ve overlooked some photographs and stashed others away because I wasn’t sure they were “enough.”

But this one stands out to me. Water crashing over rocks on the shoreline of Lake Superior. It reminds me how delicate life is, and that realization quiets the anxiety and makes space for being authentic.

Lately, I’ve been trying to get back to the simplest reason I started photographing in the first place: making photographs of what inspires me. Just for the experience of paying attention.

If it means something to you, it matters.

One of my favorite spring subjects is the fern. Of course, the primary subject is always the light, but the secret is listening to what the light is saying, and noticing what it’s revealing. That’s where the photograph really lives.

It’s the best kind of therapy. I can’t tell you how many things photography has carried me through. What I do know is this, every photograph ends up tied to my soul in some way.

Have a great weekend, everyone. Thank you for your support!
