I just spent 12 days in California exploring a few pretty incredible places…

I started in Lake Tahoe, made my way down to Yosemite and Bass Lake, then drove another 2.5 hours to my final stop in Angels Camp. At each location, I used WorldMark by Wyndham as a home base while getting out and exploring as much of the surrounding area as I could.

I was honestly really impressed with how much each destination had to offer. There were endless photography opportunities, plenty of adventure, beautiful places to hike and swim, and a good mix of exploring and time to slow down a little.

If you’re wanting to visit California and experience something similar, I put together a few of my favorite spots along the way:

LAKE TAHOE

• Exploring Secret Cove
• Jumping off Bonsai Rock
• Paddleboarding at Whale Beach
• Emerald Bay State Park
• Sunset at Cave Rock
• Sushi at Off the Hook (incredible)

• Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias

• Tacos at Mi Charro (10/10 tacos)

A day at an alpine lake somewhere in Washington.

Not sure there’s a much better reward after a hike than reaching an alpine lake like this. Washington seems to have an endless supply of them and trails to explore. Just spent a week there and feel like I barely scratched the surface. I’ll be back 🫡

I have been wanting to capture a rainbow over the South Holston Mountain range for quite some time now. The lake is one of my favorites in the area, so when I saw the forecast calling for isolated thunderstorms mixed with sunshine, I knew the conditions had potential.

I drove out to Bristol that afternoon and spent a couple of hours at the lake, watching the rain move in and out while waiting to see if everything would line up. Eventually, the rain drifted toward the mountains, the sun broke through from the opposite direction, and the conditions came together perfectly. There wasn’t a breath of wind, leaving the lake completely glassy with beautiful reflections.

After many attempts, I was finally able to capture one of my favorite photos from the area.
