The time of year matters more than most couples realize when planning their engagement session.

One of my favorite tips: try to schedule your engagement photos during the same season as your wedding.

If you’re getting married in the summer, a summer engagement session carries the same warmth, color, and energy your wedding day will have.

The light feels similar. The atmosphere feels familiar. Everything visually connects.

That’s exactly what happened here.

Soft summer greenery. Warm golden light. Quiet garden corners. And a sunset that wrapped everything in that dreamy glow.

Time of day matters just as much.

Most of these images were created right before sunset, when the light becomes soft and directional.

Photographers call this golden hour for a reason. Skin tones glow. Highlights soften. Backgrounds melt into beautiful color.

But rules are just starting points.

Your engagement session should reflect your vision, your story, and the feeling you want your photos to carry. Some couples love spring blooms. Others want cozy fall colors or snowy winter romance.

There’s no single right answer. Only the season that feels like you.

If you’re planning your engagement session, start by asking yourself two questions: What season feels most like our story? And what kind of light do we want our memories wrapped in?
