There’s something that happens when I get together with an actor to begin a headshot session.

We start to play.

My job is to break down any insecurity and find the human inside.

There’s no audience. No character to hide behind.

Just the actor.

And a camera held between us, whose job is to find and capture that connection.

Here’s a bunch of my favorite images from this year.

A great headshot comes from an amazing session.

Not one single great shot.

A range that actually reflects who you are and the roles you were made to play.

It's been a year since I started my online mentorship community group for photographers who aren't jerks to each other.

I've failed my way forward, trying and learning every day how to go from photographer of 20 years to a mentor and beacon for photographers who feel lost, without kindness or support from peers and alone in their business (as I often did when I started out).

Today, I've just launched the Humble Togs Podcast.

The idea is to speak to photographers of all experience levels about the lessons, failures and struggles we all have in the creative space.

A podcast for photographers and creatives which isn't just about the highlight reel.

Replay from today’s LIVE — talking about one of the most common questions: “How much for a photo shoot?” Yes, you can answer it… but how you answer it changes everything. If you just throw out a number, you’ve given them nothing but a price to compare. But if you set the goalposts — what people CAN invest and what MOST typically invest, then pivot to talking about what the client might actually love to order, you move the conversation into territory much more useful for the client. You move into: “Tell me about your family…” Because now it’s not about price. It’s about creating something meaningful for their walls. The price shoppers? They’ll bow out. And that’s fine. The ones who care about their family, their kids, and what this actually means? They lean in. That’s where the real value is. And that’s how you build a business that’s not competing on price.

So… just an average shoot then? 😉 When you create real value and an experience people love, those numbers stop sounding crazy and start sounding normal.
