Another image selected for the American Photography 42 annual! From an assignment for along Peruvian Amazon with . Even more special, this is my first award coming from an article I also wrote myself, so big thanks to the entire YOLO team, particularly for making sense of my rambling diary, and of course for seeing the beautiful and bizarre. And thank you !

I’m very happy to learn that this image, “Salt Miners, Uvinza” has been selected for the American Photography 42 annual. It was part of an exhibition at the Foyles Gallery, London, in conjunction with “A Training School for Elephants” a work of narrative non-fiction by that uncovers a forgotten 1879 expedition by King Leopold II of Belgium to train African elephants for colonial exploitation in the Congo.

Thank you to the jury of , and also , , , , , , ,

Lake Tanganyika is seen as an economic gateway of growing significance between Tanzania’s coast and the DRC. Massive investment – much of it Chinese – is being funneled into Tanzania’s sea ports of Bagamoyo, Tanga, Dar es Salaam and Mtwara. The supply chains from Africa’s interior are also developing. A new road is being built, connecting Karema, midway down Lake Tanganyika, to the Indian Ocean. Inland ports on major lakes are being built on Victoria, Tanganyika and Nyasa.
