A couple scenes I lit for the Easter Film for !

Featuring the incomparable

It was a dream working on a 360º period accurate set. I dreamed about this tavern scene before shooting it. We used almost exclusively candle light. I learned a lot.

3/3 BEING

For “being” moments I filmed on a wider lens (typically 16mm or 28mm) to enhance the connection between the subject and the grounds.

With these I gave people no direction except “follow your curiosity” and “don’t put your hands in your pockets” (a real sacrifice bc it was cold). Then I’d film for 5-7min.

In her interview, (brand strategist) talked about how she loved to listen to her clients’ stories and find nuggets of gold that they might not notice. During her “being” sequence, she naturally stooped and peeled the bark off a log and felt the wood underneath with the golden sun winking through.

The final moment is a clip from two years ago when I was in a bad headspace and needed to get somewhere beautiful, take my headphones out and just be for a bit.

I had the joy of partnering with and a small team of creatives for a retreat/rebrand in the Pacific Northwest for three weeks at the top of this year.

I was there to capture the story of the rebrand and the experience of the artists. It was a natural way of working because I had time to follow and revisit my curiosity. It was a slow, introspective workflow. And I discovered something profound.

I’m still the same filmmaker I was when I was 17. Now I have more technical knowhow, but the essence of what I want to film is the same. I love details. Finding a cool stump or table or light streak in the reflection of the water. That’s the stuff I don’t get tired of.

This was such a treat (and a trick) to make! This summer I was thinking about loving stop motion as a kid, but not knowing opportunities to do it as an adult. Got so lucky that had a fun, spooky vision for a stop motion piece. Enjoy!

Last year approached me with a picture of her bedroom in high school.

She had an idea to show the bedrooms of high school students that harkens early 2000’s punk nostalgia as a spec campaign for .

She knew zero high school students in New York.

I knew one.

And she was perfect.

Today marks one year in New York City!

Moving here has been one of the most difficult and rewarding things I’ve ever done. This is a city of extremity and this year has been that emotionally.

I’m grateful to the friends I’ve been given here who keep me sane and remind me that life and my value is more than work.

This city is so inspiring. God is my constant companion. Can’t wait to see what another year brings.
