It’s official: 🎉 LOUIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! 🎉 … … …

… BY US! I know. I’ll wait while you recover from this totally surprising, definitely not predicted by all of our friends and family, absolutely shocking piece of news.

But seriously, we really *really* wanted to avoid the irony of us “foster failing” on our very first try. Adopting one of our foster dogs (and then continuing to foster) was always the plan, but we definitely did not expect it to happen so soon or even so easily. We just couldn’t deny how well Louie fit in with our home, our lifestyle, our plans for the future, and especially with our grumpy senior cat Lola. Turns out, foster number one was the one to keep! We made it official on Thanksgiving Day 😊 and gave him a new name: TAQUITO!

Taki has made himself right at home here, especially on the couch where he snoozes in between visits to the toy box and hilarious attempts to figure out his spicy sister Lola. He is quickly becoming a little New Yorker, wearing stylish hoodies and jackets to keep warm, lifting his paws for wipes after walks, and patiently sitting next to neighbors in the elevator. He is still overwhelmed by the chaos of our Brooklyn streets, but getting braver and more curious every day. We are enjoying the small dog lifestyle after nearly 10 years with a large dog and we can’t wait to show this lil guy around NYC and beyond in the future!

The ease at which Taki settled into our home and the confidence that we had as first time fosters is all a testament to the amazing work that does to prepare these dogs for the best possible life ahead. But they cannot pay for this work on love alone and that’s where WE come in. Did you know?? Rabies used to be more commonly known as HYDROPHOBIA and it has been associated with dogs throughout history. It was especially bad for dogs in the 1800s and early 1900s when the virus reached epidemic levels in many US cities. This ultimately led to the animal shelter system and services that we’re working hard to change today.
