There is nothing wrong with just taking a picture of a bed of tulips, but if you focus on one of whatever the mass is you are taking a picture of then and have the rest fill most of the background, it is more dramatic and more like what your brain interprets when you see the bed - a mass of beautifulness!

Recently, I was in Death Valley for their "Super Bloom". Now their Superbloom isn't what your mind might imagine - plants are many feet apart and knowing that it is tough for ANYTHING to grow in Death Valley, seeing plants every 5' - 10' over hundreds of acres is pretty amazing. But how do you make it look good from a picture perspective? One hint - don't shoot standing up - shoot on the ground so that the flowers are effectively compressed into a mass of color. See the pictures below. Additionally, another rule I discussed was to include an object, an object that represents the topic of the picture, in the foreground to give it depth and perspective. On your phone, there is a setting called "Portrait Mode". Basically, it blurs out the background to highlight the primary subject of your picture, whether people or other objects. Sometimes, the background is critical for the picture, but sometimes not. (Click pictures to see the differences and the comments). When shooting several people, they each must be about the same distance away from the phone camera or some might fade into the blurry background.
