Jim Ziemer has cherished his talent for drawing and painting throughout his life. While he initially prioritized earning a living, his retirement to the Chesapeake Bay area in 2003 marked a turning point. It was then that Jim's artistic endeavors flourished, with a focus on wildlife, scenery, boats, and the boating history of the region. In 2009, he moved to Brunswick, Georgia, where his artistry

continued to evolve, capturing the unique wildlife and offering commissioned portraits. While Jim is self-taught, his natural observational skills and ability to render realism are evident in his work. Portraiture remains his favored medium, showcasing his talent for capturing both likeness and personality. Nature and wildlife are also recurrent themes in his portfolio. Jim's artistry extends beyond the brush; it's in the careful conceptualization and storytelling that precedes each creation. Traditionally, he has worked with acrylics for their vivid colors and swift drying properties, reserving oils and pencil for his portraits. In recent years, Jim has embraced a new artistic chapter, blending his lifelong passion with modern technology. Due to age-related physical constraints, he has shifted his primary focus towards photography and AI-generated art, applying his extensive expertise in Photoshop to enhance and personalize these works. This transition has allowed Jim to continue expressing his artistic vision, albeit through a different medium, while still maintaining a special place for pencil work in his repertoire. Jim's art has been showcased and celebrated in various art shows and juried galleries across Virginia and Georgia. While he has received numerous awards, it is the personal connection and understanding his art fosters with viewers that he cherishes most. "Driftwood Beach Standoff". Acrylics on gesso board 12X16. The barnacle laden driftwood stump was a reference photo I took years ago, and I added the baby turtle to finish the "story".

AI is reaching new levels in photoshop. It now can use Nano Banana to do amazing things (Photoshop Beta only at this time). Using photoshop, I combined the first 2 images into 1 image. No big deal, but here's the kicker. I simply went into generative AI and told it to "have the female figure place her arm around the male figure and change the background to a beach scene at sunset". In about 15 seconds the third picture was created. I'm in awe!

Cedar Waxwing. 11x14 acrylics on gesso board. This was a challenge because it is the "smoothest" of the birds making it difficult to show the feathers yet maintaining the proper form.

"Puma". 12x16 Acrylic painting on gesso board. Trying a different approach with the background making it a more "painterly effect to make the subject stand out, rather than just blurring the background like a photo effect. Oh well, here it is.

"Almost Asleep". 14x11 acrylics on Ampersand gesso board. It's been 10 years since I've done acrylic painting so it took a bit of doing to just get set up (new paint, brushes and set up). I also found using all this was like learning all over again so many mistakes were made, but fortunately, acrylics are very forgiving. I almost trashed it, but my daughters convinced me to save it - so here it is.
