Tara O'Connor has spent years learning to advocate for herself in rooms that were not built for her.

Walking into a portrait studio was just one more room she decided to own.

These images are proof that she did.

"I won't let my health conditions or anything stop me from doing what I want to do. It may take me longer and I may have to do things differently but it will never stop me."

Tara O'Connor moved across the country alone, built a business from scratch, and advocates every day for families who are exhausted and need someone in their corner.
She knows what it means to keep going when things are hard. She has been doing it her whole life.

Tara is featured in the 2026 Working Women Portrait Magazine. Her story is one of resilience, self-advocacy, and the courage to start over and build something that actually fits.

Meet Tara O'Connor.

She is the founder of Little Sleep Wonders LLC, working as a Pediatric Sleep Coach helping families of all ages finally get the rest they need. Her career has spanned childcare, the school system, the medical field, EMT work, and firefighting before she found her calling.

Tara spent more than twenty years misdiagnosed or undiagnosed with multiple health conditions. That experience taught her to advocate fiercely for herself and ultimately for others. A little over two years ago she packed up and moved to Maine alone, seeking a fresh start. The transition brought both growth and heartbreak. She built something new anyway.

"I won't let my health conditions or anything stop me from doing what I want to do. It may take me longer and I may have to do things differently but it will never stop me."

Passionate. Empathetic. Kind. Big-hearted. Straightforward. A sleep expert. An advocate. That is how she hopes people see her.

Tara is one of twelve extraordinary women featured in the 2026 Working Women Portrait Magazine. All month I am introducing you to each of them, women who showed up, got in front of the camera, and let themselves be seen.

She is building a life grounded in independence, healing, and connection. And she still has her dog Lukey by her side.

Hoa described herself as private. Said she was not sure about being photographed.

Then she stepped in front of the camera.

This is what courage looks like when it shows up quietly.

"Don't let people tell you you can't get it done."

Hoa Hoang has lived those words. She built a business from the ground up, created jobs in her community, and kept moving forward through every challenge and doubt along the way.
More than twenty years in real estate. Her own agency. A team she lifts up every day.

Hoa is featured in the 2026 Working Women Portrait Magazine. Her story is one of grit, generosity, and a quiet power that speaks for itself.

Meet Hoa Hoang.

Born in Vietnam and a U.S. citizen since 1989, Hoa has spent more than twenty years building a real estate career rooted in resilience, determination, and quiet strength. In 2013 she opened her own agency in Hallowell, Maine, a milestone she remains deeply proud of.

She did not set out to become a Realtor. A wrist injury changed her path and she discovered a calling she never expected. What began as a practical shift became a purpose.

Her definition of success is not a number or a title. It is providing healthy raises to her staff. Creating stability for others. Showing up for her team even on the toughest days.

"Don't let people tell you you can't get it done."

Small can be powerful. Hoa proves that every single day.

Hoa is one of twelve extraordinary women featured in the 2026 Working Women Portrait Magazine. All month I am introducing you to each of them, women who showed up, got in front of the camera, and let themselves be seen.

Her legacy will be one of service. Helping her community grow, creating jobs, and opening doors for others one home at a time.

Cathy DeMerchant told me she was naturally private. That stepping in front of the camera was not easy for her.

You would never know it.

These portraits show a woman who is exactly where she belongs. Calm, confident, and completely at home in herself.

Take a look.

"When you show up prepared, confident, and respectful, barriers tend to dissolve."

Cathy DeMerchant has been proving that her entire career. In staffing. In conservation. In leadership spaces where women were rarely in the room, let alone running them.

Nearly three decades of putting people to work. A business now fully her own. A life rooted in faith, family, and the North Maine Woods.

Cathy is featured in the 2026 Working Women Portrait Magazine. Her story is one of quiet strength, steady purpose, and a commitment to doing what is right regardless of circumstances.
