I read some research this week about the benefits of having an older sister. As an older sister, I 100% believe it. Having an older sister means:

-Better mental health

-Greater compassion and empathy

-Stronger communication and interpersonal skills.

-Help with posing when you pretty much had it on your own. ( photos in sequence of when they were taken). šŸ¤£

When I went on a camping trip with my parents last week, we visited lots of antique stores, and i love looking at old photos. When I see photos with soul, I like to purchase them and let them inspire me. Although I love traditional photos, there is just something about those photos of women hanging laundry, cooking, and baking that show true living. Happy Labour Day! And don't forget to photograph your work as well as your play.

I had such a great time getting to know Jaxon. He's an incredibly thoughtful and kind young man, and he's got a mind for business. He, and a friend of his, started The Window Daddies . They clean both residential and commercial windows. In fact, I hired Jaxon to clean my home windows, and he should be coming out next week. I'll post back and give a review of his work. :)

Jaxon takes his business very seriously and is already thinking about how to expand it. He's experienced already how much fun it is to grow a business he can be proud of. I love young entrepreneurs. ā¤ā¤ā¤

When I was in first grade, I was very shy and also not the best reader, so my mom had me go into our local nursing home each week and read my Bible to the residents. I donā€™t remember how much I improved on my social skills or reading, but I do remember coming home with lots of candy stored in my pockets. When my kids were little, I kept up the tradition, and so I have visited quite a few different elder care facilities over the years.

This week, I went to Ave Maria here in Jamestown to help with updated photos for their website. There was such a unique spirit of community and family that I had to share a little about the experience.

At Ave Maria, there are so many ways for residents to connect: Mass, exercise rooms, a spacious library, communal TV spaces, card games, and even a pool table. In one room, residents sat around a few tables folding towels for the facility, while another resident took charge of pruning the plants. This especially appealed to me because I know I am always at my happiest when I can do physical work.

My friend Annie, a ray of sunshine, took me around the entire facility. She stopped and talked to everyone we met. Her knowledge and interest was genuine, and the residents reciprocated that friendship. It was a joy to photograph Ave Maria and to see firsthand the beauty of a place where people are truly cared for, involved, and connected.

This week, Iā€™m turning my attention to my upcoming winter studio plans. I love the planning portion of studio work, and Iā€™ll be sharing some ideas throughout the week of things to come.

This beautiful settee is on loan from and will be in my studio through November.

My plan is to offer family sessions where clients dress their best. You really donā€™t need too many photos with this sort of session. Iā€™m thinking about going old school here: come in for 10 minutes, get a beautifully composed family portrait to hang austerely over the mantel-- or perhaps go mafia or some other brand of you. :). Perhaps a couple's portrait and a sibling pic, and nothing more.

I have a few families coming to this event already, with their own unique vibe, but I would be open to hearing your thoughts and ideas for this session.
