Fall in love with someone who chooses you. Someone who fights for what you have when difficulty hangs heavy in the air, someone who insists you are stronger together, capable of beating the odds, capable of turning even the messiest parts of life into lessons instead of reasons to leave. Fall in love with someone who is your calm peace in this chaotic world; someone who builds your restless heart a safe space in their own.

Fall in love with someone who take the time to remember how you like your coffee in the morning, someone who just picks up on your energy because they have made the effort to dive into the depths of it. Fall in love with someone who pays attention, someone who holds you a little tighter when the world tries to soften you. Fall in love with someone who sees you, for you.

Fall in love with someone who inspires you to be a better person. Someone who shows you the gardens within your soul where you only ever used to see cemeteries. Fall in love with someone who makes you believe in your goodness, someone who supports you, who encourages your mind and talents every moment you question your purpose.

But most importantly — fall in love with someone that makes an effort that stretches far beyond poetic words or passive convenience. Fall in love with someone who genuinely fills your life with wonder, and foundation, and the kind of hope that spills out of you and into everything you do. Fall in love with someone who teaches you love can be rediscovered, reimagined — transformed into something that is honest and gracious and so for you that it feels like it was knit into your cells before you even met them. Fall in love with someone who makes you want to be vulnerable, someone who shows you it’s okay to have faith in the heart of another.

Fall in love with someone who is your safe place, and your biggest adventure. And never forget that you can also be this person for yourself, too.

Life is too short to fall for people who don’t love you loudly, or relationships that don’t set fire to your soul. Our time on this earth is impermanent, and in the short years we must love fearlessly.

Fall for the person who terrifies you because they have new ways of looking at the world, because they are different, because there is some unexplainable connection pulling you back to him or her, no matter how much you try to deny it.

Fall for the person who terrifies you because you feel something when you look into their eyes. Because scary is a change, a challenge, and both those things will help you grow.

Fall for the person who terrifies you because what the hell else is our purpose on this earth than to love and love foolishly, fearlessly, fully?

Life is to short to hold yourself back from feeling something deeply. Life’s too short to deny your heart the pleasure of falling into someone, and giving them your soul. Life’s too short to pretend that you’ll find love where it’s comfortable and easy, because in reality, love will never be easy.

I hope one day someone looks at you like they’ve been waiting to feel as happy as they do now. I hope they tell you cute things like how they found this cozy Italian restaurant around the corner and kiss your nose before spinning you around in the street.

I hope when you ask them to go for a walk in the middle of the night they do not complain that it is too cold and even thought you can see the condensation of your breath in the midnight air I hope you feel warm. I hope old ladies smile knowingly when you walk by, hand in hand, along the pavement and I hope you are smiling too.

When they whisper how much they love you I hope you feel your heart beating so fast you’re scared you’ll never recover. I hope they stay and make you feel important, like they want every part of this and are not afraid to admit it. I hope they find word that touch you where their fingers cannot and hold your soul when you are fragile like glass.

And I hope you find someone who asks before they kiss you, not because they need to ask permission but because they want to see your knees buckle and your lips part ways. And I hope you never need to ask if they’re the one because the answer will be staring you in the face.

It’s such an intimate gesture, yet so innocent at the same time. When you feel their hand touching the palm of yours, it’s like the entire world is at your fingertips in that moment. And even better, the first time two people ever hold hands, is precious. When the person nudges at your hand and eventually slides their fingers interlocking with yours and you feel your cheeks getting warm, turning a shade of rosy pink and your heart pounding like drums. When they grasp on so tight like it would be impossible to let you go. How their hand just seems to fit right into yours as if it was meant to be that way. So beautiful and satisfying with a rush of emotions. And just with the knowledge that your hands are linked together makes your hearts even fonder and you can just feel how close you are to each other, physically and soulfully.
