Bittersweet update- announcing my semi-retirement from birth work…
After a decade of walking alongside birthing families—as a doula, a photographer, and a witness to the most sacred moments—I’ve made the incredibly hard decision to step back from birth work.
For the past five years, I’ve had the honor of documenting strength, vulnerability, joy, and transformation through birth photos and video. It’s truly been one of the greatest privileges of my life. But as my own family enters a particularly demanding season, I know it’s time to shift my focus inward to be more present and available at home.
This decision didn’t come lightly. Birth work is part of who I am, and the families I’ve served have forever shaped my heart. I’m endlessly grateful for the trust you’ve given me to be there as your stories unfolded—often in the quietest, most powerful hours of your lives.
I also want to take a moment to recognize the beauty and power of my children whose births originally pushed me into birth work and advocacy but now whose needs are pulling me in a different direction.
Moving forward, I will only be taking on a very limited number of births for close friends and returning clients so if I have attended your birth in the past please reach out! My repeat clients hold a very important space in my heart. This isn’t a goodbye, but rather a re-centering. I’m confident this is the right path for me right now, even though it tugs at my heart.
But don’t worry, my advocacy for better birth is still alive and well. You will see me around in the birth world working with others to remove barriers to safe birth practices and improve outcomes!
Thank you for being part of this journey. For every tear, every push, every breath, and every photo—we have created something truly beautiful together.
With love and an overwhelming amount of gratitude,
Julie ❤️
