Ending Women’s History Month with this portrait I took of Shere Hite.❤️‍🔥

Her Hite Report gave women a voice about their own sexuality – and became a global phenomenon, selling over 50 million copies.🌪️☄️💣

And still, she was relentlessly discredited, mocked, and character-assasinated by a bitter, male-dominated media landscape – until she left the U.S. and shredded her passport. She has been largely erased from the narrative. Another example of a dismantled woman’s legacy.

She deserves to be remembered. 🌈💫💥

2026 - 2023. Lauve came to me in 2023 to document her tattoo removal journey. 📸

We recreated the portrait last week – same light, same framing, just a different moment in time.⏳

I love what happens when you return to the same image like this. It becomes less about the photograph and more about witnessing change, choice, and the body moving through time.🔄

This is my late friend and photography mentor, Karin Kohlberg.

She was one of the first people I met when I moved to NYC, and she took me under her wing – showing me the ropes of fashion photography and generously sharing her knowledge and resources.📸

I still miss her.💔

These portraits of my friend Christen were taken before her mastectomy.

She wanted to honor and remember her body before surgery – and I was incredibly moved by her courage and trust in front of the camera.

Christen is a very accomplished artist, feminist and trans advocate herself, and this session felt like a loving and also fun collaboration about beauty, strength, and change - despite the heaviness.

I just added a Body Portraits section to my updated website www.evamuellerphoto.com where this series now lives.

And if anyone is facing a similar moment and would like to document their body beforehand, I’m always here to do that in a thoughtful and respectful way.
