Tall Poppy Photography Capturing Life, Love & Laughter Life is marked by milestones: birthdays, graduations, and all the firsts of growing up. My name is Kamala Nahas.

I believe life’s magic lies in between those milestones…a knowing look, a tender embrace, roll on the ground laughter, a stolen kiss, and tears of joy…fleeting moments that imprint themselves on our hearts. These are the moments I hope to capture for you. I cannot remember a time when I did not love taking pictures. I have always been interested in the natural world and interactions between peopl

e. As a stay-a-home-mom for most of my life, I’ve truly come to appreciate the little things that make life great. I can also appreciate how difficult it is to make kids stand still and smile naturally for a photo. Hence, I have adopted a very relaxed style of photography that aims to catch families in their most genuine moments. My goal is to create authentically beautiful photographs your family will treasure for generations.

Swipe over for my Top 9 for 2020. For the most part idyllic coastal images:

#1 All fall sunset from 2019. Shot and edited on my iPhone while I was waiting in the car during my son’s water polo practice. Thinking of making this available as a notebook.

#2 “Rainbow Sky 1” Shot after the end of a family portrait session. Now available. Sony a7rii

#3 View of the Eastern Sierra’s shot late spring this year while my husband was fishing the upper Owens. Nikon D810

#4 “Sorbet Surf” recently placed 2nd in the Minted x PBK/T challenge. Coming late January! Sony a7rii

#5 “Sorbet Sea” shot while floating in the Pacific Ocean near Maui. Available at Minted and Pottery Barn Teen. Olympus OMD EM5 w/underwater housing.

#6 “SoCal Sorbet 4” shot on a December afternoon at my favorite beach. It’s my all time best selling print. Available at Minted and Pottery Barn Teen. Sony a7rii

#7 A composite photograph shot this fall at Humboldt Lagoons State Beach and Samoa Dunes. Nikon D850 & Sony a7riii.

#8 Shot at dawn following a summer thunderstorm. Sea of Cortez, Baja California. Nikon D810 on a tripod.

It's been awhile, but the fall portrait season has officially started! The smoke cleared for a beautiful evening this past Thursday.

It's getting to be time for me to start planning my holiday portrait mini-session days and schedule. I expect this year to be different. Usually most of my clients like to shoot late October or November. I'm wondering if, since schedules are still pretty light, any of you might be interested in shooting in a couple weeks (hopefully the smoke will have cleared by late September)? I still love photographing people, especially the families I've seen grow over the past 7-8 years. I'll also be open to social distancing accommodations.

New work coming soon from two of my favorite spots: Zuma Beach and Ventura Beach! “Zuma” placed in the top 20 and “Ventura” was an editor’s pick in in Minted’s recent pairs and sets challenge.

These two didn’t make the cut, but I still love them anyway. I was playing with lines, shadow, and geometry. Maybe I can talk my water polo playing son into putting them in his room. (Likely not, sigh.)
